Morning Nick,
Welcome to the club, where you’ll
find us a friendly bunch and will go out of our way to answer questions or provide advice. Thank you for your kind words about this thread, I’ve left it dormant for a while now but I should give it an update when time permits.
Yes I’ve been playing with the RNS-E for a while now but cannot take any credit for any of the new functionality gained by utilising the custom firmware, it’s not my work, I’m just a very happy customer from this
website. Stuart, who releases the firmware from the linked website has many customers outside of the UK and certain that he can assist you with any specific needs you might have you in Australia.
As far as I know each ColorMFA screen (like you see fitted into this A2) originated from the team who run the ColorMFA
website and provide its firmware, which is updated a couple of time each year. There is a translate option in the top left of the homepage to assist reading, failing that if you use Google Chrome it will offer to translate for you. Most of the A2’s sporting this very tidy upgrade was installed by our A2 retrofit expert
@timmus, this members offerings are
here. After doing a little research for you I come to the conclusion that the actual screens are not readily available and are acquired from a group order. They’re purchased from the ColorMFA team for around $210 USD but that’s just for the screen, you will then need to have it installed into your instrument cluster followed by the necessary labour of having your updated instrument cluster refitted (might be further soldering required) to you vehicle. It seems that the screens might have almost halved in price over time but don’t think that ever made it to end user, might be wrong so will do some more homework on costs.
If you’re set on having a ColorMFA installed then it might help if you join their
website for support and advice on where you might be able to find out where the next group order is being collated from. There is a very good link contained within their forum which I won’t add here due to possible content copyright implications. Once on the ColorMFA website you’ll see there is plenty of information on
how to install the screens within your instrument cluster, it’s obviously not for the faint hearted as it’s quite an intricate soldering process. There are quite a few here in the UK who are happy to conduct the ColorMFA screen installation though, depending on which Audi model you have will depend on who will be best to provide advice. I notice from your profile that you’re yet to acquire an A2, are there many A2’s in Australia to choose from? Are you just gathering as much information as possible to install a screen into a different vehicle from the VAG range? Either way, once you’re on the ColorMFA website you’ll see there is a Forum that you can join where you can communicate with their admin team and the wider community who really are quite helpful and respond very quickly to all questions.
Apologies for the wordy reply but your question needed more than a one liner type answer. Again welcome to the club.
Kind regards,
Tom
