Hello Duncan,

It’s been a while, hope all is good with you and yours Sir.

Thank you very much. It took a few hours but so so worth it.

The gear knob, gaiter and handbrake lever cover are the original Jive items painted Twist. They really do look astonishingly good but was only testing the durability of the Furniture Clinic beige paint (which is spot in by the way) before I embark on restoring the seats.

I’ll be painting them black later on this evening to continue with the contrasting Soul/Twist theme.

If you’re on about just the 6 speed gear knob badge then it’s from an Audi A6 C6.

Kind regards,

Tom

Thanks. Than I’ll go your route in order to refurbish the gearknob and gaitor of my mom’s A2. Which is jive as well, but paint has worn off. Thanks for the tip?

Duncan,

Here's the post within this thread where I show the transformation from worn Jive to fresh Twist. Some pictures from the same post:

I couldn't find a good match for the Jive colour but Furniture Clinic will certainly mix it up for you. I'm sure you'll have a similar supplier where you are.

Kind regards,

Tom

Looks great Tom, well worth the effort as it looks so much more modern that the jive dash.
Thanks Steve,

It was only possible by you having such an item available whilst I was considering this challenge/upgrade, it's all down to you and your awesome parts service Sir!

Thanks again.

Kind regards,

Tom

Evening all,

Employed the black Furniture Clinic leather paint earlier this evening as promised. Great satisfying and therapeutic task to do whilst relaxing in front of the TV.

Results are really quite good with this product:

I’ll probably give them another few coats once this application has fully cured in a day or 2. For now I'm really happy with the way this new theme is coming along.

Seeing how fresh the top of the armrest looks (painted same time I recoloured the Jive items Beige) is making me want to restore the seats immediately but they'll have to wait. Im thinking of using an airbrush to cover such a vast area which I am yet to purchase.

Kind regards,

Tom

Looks so good with that two tone dash.
Morning Paul and Happy New Year to you and yours (and everyone else on the Forum),

Thank you so much for the comment. I’m still really enjoying the look and so glad I went ahead with the very achievable work involved.

Not quite sure how far to take the Soul into the interior yet. Initially considering Soul leatherette door card armrests/handles.

Might just leave it as is for a while but have Project 250 here with a Soul interior that I can borrow trim panels from to see what might work.

Kind regards,

Tom

Great Build Tom! And greetings from Australia, I’ve just joined the forum as I discovered your extensive write ups on the RNS-E and modernising the system with the Firmware updates.

I’ve been a fan of the RNS-E for a long time and just scored a 193 unit. I’m curious where the DIS colour display was sourced from?

Thanks, Nick

Please do a little write up for us about your car. There can't be many in Australia.

Morning Nick,

Welcome to the club, where you’ll
find us a friendly bunch and will go out of our way to answer questions or provide advice. Thank you for your kind words about this thread, I’ve left it dormant for a while now but I should give it an update when time permits.

Yes I’ve been playing with the RNS-E for a while now but cannot take any credit for any of the new functionality gained by utilising the custom firmware, it’s not my work, I’m just a very happy customer from this website. Stuart, who releases the firmware from the linked website has many customers outside of the UK and certain that he can assist you with any specific needs you might have you in Australia.

As far as I know each ColorMFA screen (like you see fitted into this A2) originated from the team who run the ColorMFA website and provide its firmware, which is updated a couple of time each year. There is a translate option in the top left of the homepage to assist reading, failing that if you use Google Chrome it will offer to translate for you. Most of the A2’s sporting this very tidy upgrade was installed by our A2 retrofit expert @timmus, this members offerings are here. After doing a little research for you I come to the conclusion that the actual screens are not readily available and are acquired from a group order. They’re purchased from the ColorMFA team for around $210 USD but that’s just for the screen, you will then need to have it installed into your instrument cluster followed by the necessary labour of having your updated instrument cluster refitted (might be further soldering required) to you vehicle. It seems that the screens might have almost halved in price over time but don’t think that ever made it to end user, might be wrong so will do some more homework on costs.

If you’re set on having a ColorMFA installed then it might help if you join their website for support and advice on where you might be able to find out where the next group order is being collated from. There is a very good link contained within their forum which I won’t add here due to possible content copyright implications. Once on the ColorMFA website you’ll see there is plenty of information on how to install the screens within your instrument cluster, it’s obviously not for the faint hearted as it’s quite an intricate soldering process. There are quite a few here in the UK who are happy to conduct the ColorMFA screen installation though, depending on which Audi model you have will depend on who will be best to provide advice. I notice from your profile that you’re yet to acquire an A2, are there many A2’s in Australia to choose from? Are you just gathering as much information as possible to install a screen into a different vehicle from the VAG range? Either way, once you’re on the ColorMFA website you’ll see there is a Forum that you can join where you can communicate with their admin team and the wider community who really are quite helpful and respond very quickly to all questions.

Apologies for the wordy reply but your question needed more than a one liner type answer. Again welcome to the club.

Kind regards,

Tom

Thanks @A2Steve and @2work

Unfortunately I don’t own an A2, there’s only 4 in Australia as I know but I was keeping a keen eye on this Immaculate example a year ago when it was for sale in Sydney.

I do have a 2006 A3 Quattro that I’ve been tinkering on for 5 years and I have just installed the 193G and updated with Stuarts Firmware after reading your posts, it’s Terrific!

Lots to learn about the functions and additions to unlock with Arduino etc.

Keen to see some updates on your A2 Tom

Cheers

Afternoon Nick,

Nice custom Splash. More than happy to help out where I can. I’m quite sure you can get an online manual for the 193 units, I sent a link to someone a while ago, link here. Might have been the Seat Media System E though but it’s the exact same correct operating instructions as they’re the same item. I’ll have a look for you and link it later on.

Yes the Arduino UNO/Pro is terrific for enabling the OPS display on the RNS-E PU when selecting reverse. Quite sure this A2 was the first to sport this feature, certainly with an Arduino anyway. I understand there is a few A2 with this feature now.

As you have an A3 then you should be able to have this display if you have factory fitted parking sensors as some A3 Park Assist Modules transmit the required messages over CAN and not via Diagnostics like the A2. You shouldn’t need an Arduino in your vehicle.

There isn’t much to update you with regards recent works. Is there anything specific that you might want answering as I’m more than happy to explain (in more detail if need be) anything that has been covered in earlier posts that have been masked by time.

Kind regards,

Tom

Afternoon all,

Now this thread has been d far too quiet for far too long.

You may have just seen me mention on the Today I thread that I’ve just fitted the next item that I’ve been after for sometime now.

It started off from this recent thread by Steve @A2Steve. If you cannot see the linked thread then please do consider upgrading your account to have Market Forum access.

The item purchased arrive not long ago. Perfectly packaged as all items are from Steve. Here it is unboxed on my worktop:

Minutes later it was in its filthy resting place:

The 3 brackets might get some Volico Twist Paint treatment when I get time but is certainly adequate as it is right now.

The rubber strap is still nice and tight and will securely hold items as Audi intended.

A very happy customer and so glad I found one eventually. Thanks Steve.

Kind regards,

Tom

It makes you wonder how many cars have gone to the scrapyard with these fitted which would be a shame.
Afternoon Dave,

You’re probably right. I first see one of these years ago in a breakers yard when I was removing the double DIN dashboard and complete Rear PDC kit for my original commuter.

The truth is that this particular breaker A2 had rubber mats and one of these storage straps, I didn’t know as much as I do now so left the rubber mats and the storage strap. The breakers yard owner would possibly have given me these items FOC as I’d just given him a tidy sum of cash for the other bits already removed.

I bet loads of these have simply been thrown out over the years. Shame.

Kind regards,

Tom

Are you not painting them Tom?
Afternoon John,

Yes I will probably give them some Volico Twist treatment when time is on my side. I could just leave it Soul though and put into Project 250.

Now where could I find another storage strap that’s already Twist in colour from the factory…

Kind regards,

Tom

I honestly wouldn't know Tom.
