Project Olaf - A2Steve

Congrats Steve on both counts :) So will you be bringing Olaf, Frankie or the Santa Fe to Scotland, or will it be too close to Sam's due date?

Thanks. We will definitely be in Scotland, but if closer to the time the baby bump is getting rather big, I'll have to speak nicely to @murdo to see about maybe bringing the big one.

lol for when we're going up we're probably going to hire a motor for the trip ;) Unless anybody has got a handy set of roofbars and roof box?

Congrats indeed - I couldn't imagine taking two little ones in an A2, and 3 would be right out.

I have obtained a temporary replacement for Tank in the form of a Y reg TDi which to my amazement turned out to be a 5 seat model when I went to collect. It'll be up for sale when Tank is back on the road, hopefully late Jan, so if anyone is after a 5 seat diesel, then give me a shout.

Today's job, remove the rather sketchy looking window tints from the front windows. They had done a pretty good job on it, but it had peeled in places so better to just remove it.

Not a fan of window tints on the A2, just does not look right. Sam won't be happy when she sees the state you have got her hair dryer in.LOL

Ah now that's one I commissioned a long time ago. Its seen me through many allot wheel painting sessions :)

That doorcard is older than the rest of the car ... I see the other front one is the same in the shots at the top of the thread. I wonder why the previous owners changed them out?

The interior is a right mishmash. Platinum sports seats, SE wheel, black carpets and trim, swing grey doorcards and Glove box door.

I've got nice platinum doorcards on the current breaker and mint platinum trim so at least temporarily, the dash panels and doorcards will be changed to platinum.

Last night's job was to sort out the coolant warning light.

There was a bit of a botch job on the wiring to the expansion tank and someone had fitted spade connectors onto the connections for the bottle.

So i fitted a replacement bottle from an FSI 8i had here fitted and spliced in the factory connector.

20 minutes, job done, problem solved :)

Well I've just got back from driving Olaf for the first time on the public roads. Stuck 3 hours of temp cover on for a test drive and to tax it.

Looks to be that I've had a good buy and was achieving a very respectable 65mpg even in its unserviced state. Now that I know it runs well the work can commence. This is as much for my reference as anyone's interest.

Immediate planned work:
- replace all doorcards with platinum ones I have here.
- replace Glove box and Fuse box cover with platinum
- change air filter, oil filter, fuel filter, cabin filter and oil.
- fit an undertray
- find out what colour white was used and touch in chips
- replace rear shocks with KONI units I have here.
- fit and paint missing votex cover
- paint gloss black and fit aero wiper arm I have here
- find a set of centre caps for the scirocco replica wheels
- rotary wire brush rear drums and paint gloss black

Jobs in the next month or so:
- get the timing belt and water pump done
- wire in LED Drls I've got here
- fit HID headlamp bulbs and LED sidelights
- have bottom grilles in bumper painted gloss black

Jobs for before Scottish trip in May
- fit a set of coilovers to the front and Meyle HD droplinks

Jobs for after Scotland
- fit a PD130 turbo and injectors and get it remapped.
- fit bigger hubs/discs from a fabia VRS or a TT

That little lot should leave me with a nice looking, quick A2 that handles and stops well but doesn't blow the budget like Frankie and Peppa did.
