Questions about BBY engine

Hi from Sweden
I have a 2004 with 1.4 petrol engine (BBY).
The valves had a too close contact with the piston head:(.
Now I have many bended stems and at least one broken guide.
Here is my question: It's hard to find a used A2 engine but there is a lot of BBY:s coming from Vag, Seat and Skoda.
Are they identical ? Or can I use them with smaller modificatios?
Hope you understand my English.

Do not think they are direct swaps, engine and gearbox mounts usually different between models. Inlet and exhaust manifolds also can change between different vehicles. Probably best to look at the workshop manuals for the other cars using the BBY and see just what the differences are.
The German A2 forum usually has far more details about engine swaps so have a look on there. But if you can get a good complete replacement A2 unit that would probably be the easiest way to do it. Have you priced up repairing your head and parts needed to refit the head?

Rather than workshop manuals you could just work through the VAG parts catalogues and compare the main components of each engine variant

Ref the cyl head, it's also handy to search for the actual part number rather than a 'description' and you often get more results, particularly on ebay.de

My understanding is that engines fitted to different models having the same engine code will have exactly the same engine block and cylinder head and all the parts inside. The mountings, ancillaries, manifolds, cooling, belts, sensors etc. can be different.

doesn't bildelsbasen have anything interesting?
I know there is a BAD currently for sale in Norway, but that's not what you're looking for :) We may have more of what you're looking for on the German forum.

Might be worth some research into a bbz? It gives 100bhp instead of 75, and seems to be virtually the same.

Hi again
Does anyone know if I can take the engine out upwards ? Leaving gearbox in the car.
