Hello

Whilst checking for the air leak on my 1.4 petrol A2 I noticed an intermittant tapping noise while the car was iding and stationary.
Initially I thought it was just noise from the tappets, as it was that kind of noise, but on closer inspection I couldn't see anything in the area that the noise seemed to be coming from that could be generating it. It seemed to be coming from somwhere in the engine compartment, just under the corner of the windscreen on the drivers side, maybe the otherside of the bulkhead, under the dash, or inside the wing. Anyone any idea's if theres anything mechanical there ?

At start up the noise wasn't there, then as the car warmed up it started and persisted for a few mins, and then went again, and a few mins later came back. Very odd.

I have similar kind of noise from inside the driver side dash, for a while. When I took my dash out, I realise there is a missing bolt which should secure the metal arm from the support frame to the chassis. The arm knocks against the frame when I drive or hit a specific rpm.

It sounds exactly what the picture implies, metal hitting each other. I still haven't got round to tightening it yet. I think I need to remove the wiper arm motor to access that area from inside the engine bay...

ok, thanks. I'll take a look at that to see if I can get at it.

Out of interest - where is the fuel pump and filter on the 1.4 petrol ?
