Rattling noise

1.4tdi / se .......Yesterday I noticed that when I turned off the ignition I can hear a clicking/rattling sound coming from the engine bay. On closer inspection it's coming from one of the "vacuum switches/ relays/sensors"" sorry don't know what the correct term for them. But they are located in the top RHS of the engine bay and have electrical connections and small tubes/pipes coming from them.

Any ideas ?

Thanks in advance

Found the part on vag cat and it's either the solenoid change over valve or...pressure converter see items 16..17 18 image.jpg

Can something come adrift to cause it to rattle?

All was ok, car been stood on garage for a few days then I took it down the bypass to blast out the cobwebs...arrived at work, turned off ignition and one of these sole nods made a rattling noise.

Hi,

Since there are not many people around at the moment I thought I should at least respond, even if I can't be much help.

Having owned A2 tdi's for 12 years or more I have long since stopped worrying about the little clicks and rattles after the engine has been stopped.

First possible cause if purely heat, the exhaust will click and make a tapping noise as it cools down, especially if you have just "taken it for a blast" and got the engine nice and hot and BOY does a turbo diesel exhaust / turbo, get HOT.

I suspect though that the sound you are talking about may be more of a rattle, if so it is unlikely to be the exhaust,

But other things can cause noises etc. air in the water, water droplets hitting the hot exhaust etc.

I am not going to say "don't worry about it" just in case it is something with a mechanical problem, but noises after switching off are rarely a problem because almost everything is stationery.

As I said, probably not much help, but better than silence?

Cheers

It's not the exhaust or other items cooling down it's the switch as detailed in the previous post...but thanks for responding.
