re: Eibach springs for A2

Was that also with Demon Tweeks Outlet? I've just had to raise a request on Ebay as they're now overdue, so I hope it won't be 6 weeks!!! Don't think the FSDs will last that long.
Yes, Demon tweeks outlet. Fronts arrived today following some prodding (contacted seller), paid 1 Feb! Rears were cancelled by Demon saying no stock though as the price was so good (and they seemed incapable of organising a pi$$ up in a brewery) I reordered as the item was still on ebay. They arrived soon after!

Can I use shorter springs with the b4s guys do you know?

Aware that the b6 and b8 are shorter but I could do without the substancial increase in cost from b4.

Failing that any opinions on monroe?

Hmmmm, worrying. They've still got rear B4s on sale though, so fingers crossed.

Cheechy, how short are you wanting to go? I'd have said that up to -20mm would be safe with standard B4s, but can't say for certain. The B6 & B8 are totally different dampers from the B4 though, hence the cost. If you can afford it, I'd go B6 with standard spring, rather than shorter spring with B4.

So I went nuclear last year - went to Pro Sport coilovers. Good for the money but very harsh and now I want to go a little back the way to something that provides decent handling but with neither the spongy / springy setup the car was bought with (SE) and also not the rock hard setup I currently have. The car is set on min reduction of -3/-3 just now - wouldnt want to know what its like if i moved it down further :D

Someone did suggest ST springs but I believe they come .25 drop so wouldnt match with the b4s then I guess?

What are you planning to do with the coiovers once removed Cheechy? I could be in the market for ruining my ride for the sake of appearance :)

I'll keep hold until I'm sure what I'm replacing with will be ok - i suspect I'm miles away from making a decision if I'm honest. Indeed I've no doubt that something else will get in the way e.g. intercooler / turbo / DMF / <insert failure here>

Hi,

short version: If you have an FSI or TDI, feel free to use the Eibach 6Y spring sets (E7910-140).

Longer version:
Some of you, I know, follow the German forum. There's an awful lot going on there at the moment in terms of improvements and pushes to bring the A2 forward. Extended CANBus readers, secondary DIS displays... One issue has been suspension, with Koni's awful FSD consistency meaning the B4 has replaced them as the "comfort" damper of choice.
Spring selection is another massive issue, with Spidan, original, Bilstein B3s, FK, KW, ST, Weitec, ABT and Eibach all either having or have had springs for the A2.
With good damping, decent springs start to get really important. The larger aim has been to avoid the famous "pooping elk" look, where the rear of the car sits lower than the front. My own car is afflicted by this. There are several variations on resolution, including the larger spring seats (+7-10mm). The biggest opportunity, though, is the Eibach kit from the Fabia.

Eibach's Fabia Pro-Kit is built for Fabias with a front axle max. weight which is remarkably similar to the TDI and FSI front axle max weights. It is significantly higher (60kg) than the standard petrol A2. Rear axle max weights work with all "normal" A2s; not 100% sure on the 1.2.

What this means in practice? Eibach have been very reasonable and have sent the spring rate information of the A2 and Fabia springs, confirming that there is no difference aside from a 15mm longer length. This, along with the supplied "Unbedenklichkeitsbescheinigung" means that these are legally usable in Germany and other countries which require the German paperwork (like Finland).

The paperwork is in this post; you'll need to be a registered user to view / download it.

Feedback from users is very positive, especially in combination with Bilstein B6 or B8s (and as it's >20mm drop, it should be B8s!). Difference between a B6 and a B8 is nothing on the damping and everything on the length.

I will be installing these - if they arrive on time - in my own car on Thursday or Friday. Should be very interesting indeed with the new ARBs and B8s.

Hi @bretti_kivi

On your advice, I’m running 195/55’s on 16” SE rims of my 1.6 FSI SE. Love the comfort. Opted for Michelin CrossClimate+ from Blackcircles.

Now focusing on suspension and brakes rebuild at Stealth together with a remap. Question:

Are the Eibach Fabia Pro-Kit springs still considered the best match for Bilstein B6’s?

If yes, kindly verify part numbers and also please suggest where these Eibach and Nilstein parts can be bought at a discount online. Germany?

As for brakes, intending to get ATE ceramic power disc with ceramic pads. Any suggestions for discount online sources for these?

Thanks!

I’m getting a progressively softer ride on my A2 and the covers in the rear shocks are rattling so I feel a change coming on and this thread is great

I've been sick, apologies. I don't personally have a good source for these at the moment, though the specific part numbers are listed in the thread linked at the beginning of this one.

I know there are some issues currently with Bilstein availalbility. X1 is generally good, daparto too. Not sure there's a general recommendation on that one, I think we try to avoid it for liability issues.

Thanks. Hope you are feeling better.

As for the “full suspension parts list”, should I be using the one from the German forum, or is there a more up to date list somewhere else?

Im looking to buy bilstein b4s all round, and wondered if a lowering spring could be recomended which gives good control but not harsh. I have a 1.4 petrol se.
