Hi everyone, I have got an issue with my girlfriends A2 at the moment. She tried to start it the other day and the motor just spun up in a whine like noise. thought it was the starter and got a replacement 2nd hand part. Just changed it over and switched the solenoid across as it had different connectors and now it just clicks as though the solenoid is dead. The battery is fine bytheway but was wondering if any of you had an idea of what it might be? Faulty solenoid???

Yes very likely to be solenoid if it is just clicking
 
Well I changed the starter over today for a new unit and guess what.... still no start up. The engine is turning over but nothing more than that. I know the coil packs can be a bit troublesome and also possibly the crank sensor. Will test the spark tomorrow to see if it is the coil pack as suspected, any other ideas about what it might be??

Well at least you know that the starter was faulty anyway, cos it's turning over now. Where do you live, you need to get a Vag Com scan done, many Vag Com members here including me. I am im in East London if I can help. There's not a flashing yellow symbol of a car 'flashing' on the clocks is there? it should be stationary not flashing.
