I can't help thinking the 17s will make it worse as they'll likely be heavier. Best of luck, it's looking like a clutch issue.Doing it again in 4th on the way home from work tonight. Pulled the car over and lifted the bonnet, no smell whatsoever.
Doesn’t do it until revs hit around 2000 when the boost kicks in and doesn’t seem to to do once the clutch has warmed up a bit.
Will be fitting the 17s tonight just to rule that out and then going back to the garage tomorrow
Wow, well well well
just got back from the test drive after fitting the 17s back on. All signs of clutch slip have gone away.
Even from low down revs in 5th and foot to the floor acceleration there was no clutch slip.
The 15 inch wheels must have been spinning under hard acceleration.
I guess despite the mileage this little 90 is very healthy.
I can honestly say I didn’t expect that result
Wow that really is one for the books have heard of it have never seen anyone have it however

What amazes me was why didn’t the taction control come on and back the acceleration off?
I did 8 passes of the same road to testit with the 17s and didn’t slip once.
The traction control should have come on I’m really confused with this one to be honest, really very odd. Happy for you if it isn’t the clutch however

What make of tyres ? Are they newly fitted ?
Does indeed sound like tyre slip on rims. If both are doing it then traction control would not kick in

I have no idea, as suggested above, the tyres may have been slipping on the rim, but whilst I’m not dismissing it, I struggle to see how a little 1.4 diesel has enough power to make tyres slip.So much for my idea. Great news though why didn't TCS notice?
