Re-mapped TDI 90 on 15 inch wheels?

I think it’s most likely that the front wheels were spinning in tandem when the boost came in. Yes, quite a remap ?

I mentioned the tyre slipping to my mechanic this morning and he just gave me a raised eyebrow and a tut.

Ideally yes I would go back out there and put the 15s back on, but I’ve got outstanding orders for parts to sort so that will have to come first.

Thanks for all your input guys and here’s hoping that the situation doesn’t return

Very odd one would have thought the diff would have transferred the drive to the other wheel

I have no idea mate, all I know is that I tested it again this morning and still no slip

@A2Steve would be curious if ABS does throw a fit if you drop the clutch to force some wheel spin in 1st/2nd? Just to ensure ABS is not drunk, then pass it off to twilight zone.

Funnily enough I had a similar sort of thing happen last night on Baby Boomer (remapped tdi 75bhp), damp and cool conditions, probably about 75% throttle in 2nd, wheels evidently spinning, but no traction light coming on. This has the Nothelle 16" alloys.

had that happen going 50 when it was pouring down couple weeks ago, put foot down and can tell fronts are spinning :D the roads are terribad though on my commute, seen better unpaved dirt roads and have a ton of "smooth" patches on them which seem to be extra fun in the wet.

Just a thought, if the tyres were moving on the rims, (which I consider HIGHLY unlikely), enough for you to think the wheels were losing grip, then the traction control should also come on.

Maybe not, the ABS sensor measures hub rotation, not sensing tyre rotation. - Andy

Yes, but it compares that with the rears and there is bound to b a difference, it's quite sensitive, only a small percentage slip will be noticed. You can tell a differnce if you have brand new tyres on one axle and well worn on the other. And even more so if you have mismatched tyres.

I have had traction control kick in badly when my rear tyres were 5% bigger than my front. There must be sensors for comparisons - both sides were matched, only front to back were different.

When I bought one of my cars it’s had a 40 profiles on each corner (17”) and a 45 on one of the rear wheels. Could notice the traction control not being happy ok roundabouts

Just a thought here

have the 15” wheels been drowned in black to black ... or contaminate with a substance, no expert but the finger being very firmly pointed at the wheels , and the weakest link is always the contract point to the road

Yesterday I fitted a set of the lightweight 15 inch forged A2 wheels with 175/60/15 tyres. I've also wound the coilovers up to a sensible level and ride comfort has definitely improved.

Now you would think that given the past experience with small wheels via this thread I would have wheel spin again....bit I haven't. Its piddling it down in Wales today (as always) and I was late for work so had a heavy foot. The wheels did not spin in any gear bar 1st at a junction.

This doesn't really answer the conundrum of why the other set of 15's were spinning and giving the sensation of clutch slip but it would appear that it wasn't the weight of the wheels.

@A2Steve I find tyre quality to be much more important than width or tread depth (until below 3mm) when it comes to grip. What tyres are/we're you running?
