rear axle bush install tool

I've found various cheap VW mk4 golf, bora and A3 rear bush axle install tools out there but none like wise for the A2.

Looking at the bush specs for the range it appears the length and circumference of the bushes are the same but the inner thread size of the bush appears to be 1mm bigger on the A2 bushes - 12mm versus 11mm (or 10.5mm depending on where you find the info).

Anything out there that doesnt cost the earth that will do the job or will the above generic VW / Audi A3 & Polo kit for cars from the late 90s / early 2000s be good enough to do the job?

Apologies never invested or indeed used a bush removal or install tool so I guess looking for guidance on the kit specs or alternative ways to install?

I'm looking at one of these - they seem to be everywhere. I can find specific front bush install kit for polo and A2 but nothing specific but I'm hoping to avoid the cost of a universal kit where I'd only use once.

VW rear bush install kit.

May be a job better suited to an independent local garage. Probably not what you want to hear. But they will have the tools. Or perhaps a mobile mechanic if the car is immobile.

I get the sentiment but the tool will still likely cost less than the labour charge. I removed from a better condition spare axle and looking to install into the same axle before install.

Besides I have a well known a2oc celeb in line to assist all being well. :)

I guess it gives me the official tool reference for removal and install but I do note that there does appear to be a number if cheap tools on the market for install only of new bushings. I'll keep digging and I've pinged a few emails out.

I remember seeing a video on youtube (I just cannot find it now) that showed someone doing it without a specific tool. The old one was cut out and the new polyurathane? one was just slid in with a good helping of grease without taking the axle off the car. Might not have been an A2 but it looked not too difficult. I am still waiting to get mine done, but will be taking it to a garage.

I was just looking for something else on youtube and I came across this
Not a A2 right enough - Well, that's one way to do it. Anyway I think that even getting it to that stage would tax my ability to remove all those rusty bolts holding the mount. It must have been another video where I saw someone just sliding in with a polypropylene bush with good helping of grease.

Done them before and old one can be cut out and new one greased up and depending on the design (not sure about a2, was an old audi 100 or something) pushed in or use a long bolt with couple wider plates/bushings (we've used just a steel plate off some scrap with a hole drilled in middle) and then just spanner the plates together sandwiching it in - didn't seem something that would need a special tool to be honest, could probably get away with large pliers or those plumber snippy pinchies with some steel/plastic sheet on both sides to not damage the bushing.

Yup drilled and cut them out no problems there. I've bought a cheap tool from someone for the A3 / Vw Golf mk4 etc - It doesnt mention A2 but the outer dimensions look the same but in all honesty i cant see it being too hard to get in....its more about getting the old one out by the looks of things.

Thanks

Oh refurbed rear axle back from powdercoaters and good to go...

HI Cheechy
Did the tool for the Golf Mk4 / A3 work OK - been offered one at a good price and just wanted to check if it was the correct size for an A2 as well?
Thanks

It did work ok but needed holding in place when you first start to pull in the bushes as it’s not quite the correct size
I pulled the bushes into this axle assy

Yup far from perfect and indeed even for the correct size (A3, Golf) i suspect it would only do 1 go before the threads went. Rubbish quality but did the job I guess
