I need to adjust the handbrake a smidge, so could do with clear advice on removing the rear, centre trim to access the adjusters.

Hi Mac,
The handbrake should be self adjusting unless the cables have stretched over time. When I’ve needed to adjust the nut on the cable adjusters I’ve always been able to access it with just the rear storage bin removed. A 3/8 ratchet with a 10mm (could be wrong on the size though as it’s been a very long tine since I replaced the cables) socket should be all that’s required. A suitable ratchet spanner also works.

Cheers, yes, just popped the little bin out, and there it is! I was expecting it to be a major trim removal job, so very pleasantly surprised. All done.

Glad you got it sorted without removing the centre console Sir. What’s you’ve achieved is probably one of those 5-minutes jobs that actually takes just 5 minutes.

It doesn't.

Sadly, not something I had to worry about. Still, rear seat passengers are rare, so not a problem.

Adjusting the handbrake should start at inspecting and adjusting the shoes, tightening the cable can mess up the correct operation of the shoes and make the brake pedal (service brake) less effective. It's also possible if you haven't checked the tightness of the drums now that you could set the brakes on fire

I have rear discs, as it's an FSI. The pads are fine, no braking problems at all, just hand brake lever movement is, (was), a bit excessive. No pad to disc contact at rest, hand brake off, after adjustment.
