Rear disc installation in a 1.4 petrol

I missed this thread first time round it seems.

I'm looking to swap like for like on my tdi 90 and am hoping to reuse brake lines as-is. I'm guessing the line running along the axle itself (sitting in the "V" on the brackets ) wasnt changed in this instance but the connecting lines and hoses were purchased for each side.

The only other thing I've chosen to do is also replace the axle stubs. I have though chosen to replace the axle stubs and bushes with febi which may not work out for the best....I dont know for sure.

I'm refreshing the wheels bearings with FAG and an assortment of new fixings and bolts.

The axle is currently being sand blasted / powerdercoated in Matt black...hopefully ready end of this week / beginning of next. I'm told matt black finish is a little more resilient...

Now that its been done now for a couple of months how does it feel?

The brake lines on the axle are one piece each side, so the whole thing has to be changed.
Now I've been driving on it for a while and the pads are broken in, there is a slight difference, although the biggest difference is easily ride quality and handbrake holding.

Ok thanks - you didn't need to replace / look at 8Z0614726AS and 8Z0614725BA?
Nope, these are a single piece from engine bay to rear axle I believe, and will almost definitely, therefore be a royal pain to change. They're fairly well covered up until the rear of the car too, so it seems pointless, to me at least, to change them unless there is a genuine problem with them.

To do a drum brake to disk brake swap, is it required to replace whole rear axle? Isn't possible to just screw off that drum brake and screw on disk brake in it's place?

It's not,I was looking into this for a while before carrying this out. The disc axle has 2 extra "arms" that the caliper carrier screws into, whereas the drum axle doesn't have these. There has been a bracket made to do the same job, but that would probably be more expensive to make than a rear axle would.

For info this 'how to'' guide covered the method which utilises the ''arms'' brackets for caliper mounting

I'm getting my rear bushes replaced as part of this year's big refurb (rear axle renovation, PTW box and probably oil chain bits and bobs at the front) - the one thing I didn't see above was any reference to a need to replace the nuts / bolts that go through the bush or the mounting that hold the rear axle into the space-frame - I was under the impression these were torque+angle/self-tightening so needed to be replaced? I've got the two long nut / bolt combos that go through the bushes now, but TPS are taking their time with the bolts that attach the bracket to the car.

We didn't replace the cast iron brackets as then you lose the rear axle alignment, there's a lot of movement on them. Nuts and bolts on the shocks and bushes should be replaced, but we just replaced the nuts because they are self locking.

So if I understand this - the massive (8 inch or thereabouts-long) bolts through the bush come off, but you leave the brackets that these locate into on the car? Luckily, TPS seem to have forgotten the 6 bolts I ordered to do this as I was told my order was complete with today's part delivery (missing these). And it has cost 40 quid less what I was quoted.

From what I believe as I just tried to order is that these are now unavailable. I only managed to get 1 from crewe Audi and that was all that was left. Audi tradition I think though can get them.

I've had the brackets on my spare axle powdercoated so plan on swapping over but reading this its tells me I need to note position and replace one at a time.

Yes, that's right, otherwise lots of time will have to be spent re aligning the axle.
