Hi guys,

I feel really dumb for asking for asking advice on this but here goes........

i bought an A2 privately last month and went on holiday, i come back now have just noticed that when i lock the doors (with central locking or with key) the rear doors do not lock.

I opened one of the rear doors and noticed that there was a child lock (engraving of a child)key hole there so i stuck my key in and twisted it in the other direction. then i closed the doors and tried the central locking. yay! they closed but now they wont open, unless i open them from inside.

i think its something to do with the child locks in the rear seats as the person i bought the car from had 4 small children.

So please if anybody knows the right way to turn the child locks (theres 2 on each door) please let me know because when i park my car anybody can open it.

Thanks in Advance.

I may be wrong, but the child-locks should not play any part in the operation of the central door locking. They certainly didn't on mine. The strange thing is that with the child-locks ON, you should only be able to open the rear doors from the OUTSIDE and NOT the INSIDE. That's the whole point of them, to stop your children from being able to escape from the back.
Sounds to me like you have a fault.
Don't worry though, there are plenty of A2 experts on this forum that will be able to assist.
I'm sure I wont be the only one attempting to answer your question.

A2 Gone but not forgotten !!!!!!!

Are you using the key fob to lock the doors or are you actually inserting the key into the lock?

Seem to remember reading somewhere that if you insert the key, it resets the central locking... worth a try?

when i unlock the car, the rear doors, because they were not locked anyway remain open.
so when i press the key fob the front two doors close but the rear ones remain open.

The thing is when i twist both the child lock and the one on top of it(behind the rubber cover), all the doors close and i hear the beep sound, confirming that the car is secure.(i only hear this sound when i do this)
The beep doesnt sound when the rear doors are not able to close.

FiveLittleFish ill try and fiddle around using the key to lock it and seen if that works,

Thanks for the advice so far guys............

Dont remember a seperate child lock access behind a rubber cover!

A2 Gone but not forgotten !!!!!!!

the one im talking about has a kind of paddlock sign on the rubber, it's directly above the child lock, when u take the rubber off theres a red thing behind it.

beep sound?

do you have some sort of aftermarket alarm system? as i dont get a beep from mine at any time when locking or unlocking.

A2 1.6FSI Sport in Azure Blue with strange blue sports interior
climate control, scratched front offside alloy, tape player.

The beep is programmable using VAG-COM. Skipton01 set mine up for a beep and its very handy and quite discreet

The rubber capped key hole is an emergency locking mechanism for if the system develops a fault so you can still secure the back doors (no lock pins like most other cars)

As to whats going on with yours, I've no clue. Have you tried different positions for this. I'll have a look later and check where it is on mine.
