Rear Elec Windows

Ok, been looking to change my A2 for another A2 for a while now as I need rear Elec windows, every one I have found with rears doesnt have other stuff I want or I travel 150 miles to see a car at a dealer and it doesnt have them afterall (scum), and given the cost to change car anyway maybe I should look to just retro fit.

I am assuming I need the following:
Rear door cards with switches
New front drivers switch module
window motors / mechanism for rear windows - I assume glass is the same part.

Anything else I need? Does anyone know if I can buy a premade loom for this or if I will need to make one?

Any advise anyone can offer?

Hi shao khan
Sorry I can't help with any info on fitting rear electric windows but I'm interested to know why you'r so keen on the idea. I know we all have different thoughts on the 'perferct' spec but I don't see the need for rear electric windows if you have climate control, particularly if you go for a diesel where it seems to make little difference to the performance or economy.

Cheers Spike

It is to do with the kids - my boy is obsessed with them. He hates the car, dunno why all the others love the car, but he doesnt. We discovered that when we had a loaner with elec rear windows he would sit quite happily in the car and wind the window up and down until he had it open to a certain gap and he would be fine thus car journey became a whole lot more pleasant.

I appreciate this sounds daft, but anythign to make life easier......

Shao,

Are you sitting down? If not, then please take a seat!

The motors are £149.20 each, you'll need 2 new lifters, as they're different to the manual versions, £49.52 each.

The door cards are £317.57 each, no matter what the trim and new switches are £22.40 each. The new parts for the front door total £45.01.

So, all in, you're looking at £1122.39 plus wiring, plus labour.

Buy the little beggar a PSP, or whatever - that'll keep him quiet and be much cheaper!

Cheers,

Mike

Cheers mate - this is why I have been looking for A2's in a scrappy - see if I can save cost with 'used' parts. Even at £1k - my cost to change for same age car will be more than that - so I need to consider all options.

Thanks.

If the key issue is that your son just wants to wind the window up + down until he gets it to his ideal gap, why not just let him do that with the manual winder - and save yourself well over a grand and a load of hassle?

The big deal with kids in backs of cars is to ensure that they can't open the door from the inside - all A2s have child locks on the doors as standard AFAIK.

Some Germans also did this (retrofit el. rear windows). You get the doorcards sometimes on ebay or there you find addresses: http://www.a2-freun.de/forum/showthread.php?t=20250

I still got the rear switches and maybe one cable for that for sell...
