Rear speaker not working

Hi guys, a few things, did all A2's have rear passenger speakers. Well mine do and nothing comes out of them at all. The front ones work. I can adjust balance left and right. If I choose fade option, it just says fade off and doesn't do anything.
Any suggestions. Standard A2 cassette stereo. Thank you in advance.

Some models were not fitted with rear speakers. Have you physically checked to see if there are speakers behind the grilles?

Fade off to me is no rear speakers.

It could well be, if you have rear speakers, that the radio needs coding to suit the half amplified mode most uk A2s have, where the radio drives the front speakers direct, and the rears via the line (phono) output. If the radio coding is wrong, it thinks you only have front speakers. You need a member with VCDS to put it right, (if I'm right).
Mac.

Jimmy, if the car physically has rear speakers behind the plastic grilles, the chances are that the separate amplifier that sits downstream of the headunit to power them, has given up the ghost. It's a little silver Blaupunkt unit on angled mounts, located in the under-floor compartment which is under the metal cover that lies beneath the carpet in front of the driver's seat. Once you're in there it's just a couple of Torx screws and connectors to undo to get it out. Don't pay the silly prices you see for them on eBay, they're so common that someone on here is bound to have one, any of our breakers should certainly be able to help

Edit: I believe that the early cars 2000/X-2001/Y with the Chorus cassette headunit only had the front speakers, but the Concert cassette or the Symphony 6CD would come with rear speakers fitted also. From about 2001/51 when the second-generation headunits came along, all A2's came with rear speakers.

Thank you for your great replies. Yes must check if there are speakers behind grill. Thank you so much.
But strange having speaker grills with no speakers behind them if thats the case

My 2002 MY SE A2 has no rear speakers.

Perhaps although on the option list they were not available when the original owner bought the car new. I see from my September 2000 price list that the
4 additional loudspeakers, increases maximum output to 80 Watts ( located in rear doors ) was listed as "tbc"

likewise - 52 plate AUA-engined SE. Speakers only present in the front of the car. When I got it there was a horrid aftermarket head unit ; I obtained a Gen 2 Chorus from A2oc and it transformed the sound quality - to the point where sitting in the front you don't notice the lack of speakers in the rear. My 02-plated SE project car has a Gen 2 Concert - with speakers all round (but not BOSE).

Presumably the September 2000 proposal wasn't (in the end) confirmed, since neither of my later price lists (July 2001 and May 2002) make any mention of it whatever.

It does indeed look like that is what happened. Either due to lack of take up, or because the gen 2 cars / stereos were just around the corner. All gen 2 have speakers fitted in all the doors as standard.

Delving a little further into the small print of my July 2001 price list, I have now spotted that rear speakers were available as a £90 option, but only with the Chorus radio / cassette. So no rear speaker option should you upgrade to either the Concert or the Symphony. And that option had vanished again by the time of the 2002 price list.

And the chorus did not support the boot 6cd changer, would have made more sense for the "better" stereo to have the option of speakers in all doors.

Thought it stated active speakers in all doors when the gen 2 came out. Unless again there was a limitation with an initial batch.
