hi wanting to get some rear speakers for my 2001 a2 any one know what size i will need and how to connect them up. Really wana avoid halfords prices and rip off but have no where else local that do the job
cheers

16cm Speakers but there is a problem with the space: There are no adapters on the market which fit.
So the original speakers allready have the adapter on . But there is one type on ebay, which fit with new screws. See the image for the original speaker and the problem with space: (also adapters who fit)

The problem is the doorbrake but in the rear you have a bit more space than in the front. So it it not such a big problem.
When closing the door, this doorbrake moves behind the speaker.

Hi,
What's the type of adapter from ebay that fits ?
Something like this ? http://cgi.ebay.de/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&item=270087298004

My A2 has no rear speakers, so if I run wires from the headunit to the rear doors, purchase a set of 20cm speakers and a pair of those adapter rings, am I on the right way ?
Is there enough free room for a 20cm speaker to fit ? I mean esp. depth issues...

And do I have to worry about speakers impedance ? I suppose I don't...
My headunit at the moment is a Blaupunkt, but I'm considering changing it for a bluetooth unit, maybe a Parrot.

Yes, you find some like this on ebay. They do not fit by using the original screw and holes for the screw but you can mount these with some self-tapping screw.
But better don't try 20cm speakers! No one ever tryed that. use 6,5" (16,5cm) speakers. Anyway you don't really need speakers in the rear. They will not upgrade the sound. (only good if often have rear passengers)
But a subwoofer will have some positive effect.

The original Chorus or Concert Radio only has two channels! So you need the little Blaupunkt Amp or better, a new head unit. Impedance should be 4 Ohm (the orig. Speakers are more at 3 Ohm than 4 Ohm and 3 Ohm is also printed on the speakers.)

Hi -See you´ve made adaptors after measuring the original speaker boxes. You get a much better result grinding out the original membranes and just use the empty box as an adaptor for an othe speaker . I´ve done it using pioneer :looks and sounds great . No problem with door hinges!!
Can send pictures from my project .

I know this. Some people in the German forum did so.
But there is not enough space for real big Magnets on DN 165 Woofers. (and the back of the membrane needs wore space).
And my adapters are more tight and strong.

If anyone wants to see: There are much more pictures from the german site...

You mean like this?:

Thanks for the advice Erstens, I won't try fitting 20cm speakers in the rear doors then. I tought it was possible (read on a German forum), but my understanding of German is really limited :( so I'd better follow your advice. Let's go for 16,5cm then. I will have passengers in the rear, in fact I bought the A2 for that (my other car is a MGTF)
I don't have an Audi headunit. I got the car with a Blaupunkt Davos. Now I switched it for a Blaupunkt Seattle that was lying around, but I plan to fit a Bluetooth capable headunit. So yes, I have a 4 channel-amp headunit. The only issue is the wiring to the doors...
About a subwoofer, I don't want to start mods like this (amp, custom enclosure, ...), unless there is a little "all-in" subwoofer unit, like Alpine does for example, that fits nicely and invisibly in some place.

hi there, i purchased the 1107 adapters, but these do not fit my a2 despite it saying that they are for a2 and a4!
they are round and have three screws, nothing like the shape of the existing speakers.
erstens - how did you get the adapters out of the original speakers? was it a case of just chop it with a saw?
am i being blind and not seeing the adapters on ebay? cos the ones i got deffo do not fit, yet the guy reckons he has installed them loads of times (bs?)

would love to sort this out as have a £360 pair of speakers to whack in the front.

jossi - any chance of pics of what you did?

cheers

I made my own wooden adapters. All other images from adapters made from the orig. speaker are not mine.

I allready said, there is no adapter on ebay which fits with the original screws and holes. But someone did fit these ebay adapters by using other screws and new holes for them.
But if you brake out the magnet and the membrane from the original speaker, you will get an adapter.

First remove the membrane. Then cut though all the plastic stripes which hold the magnet in place.

Hi. i see now that my solution is for the Pioneer Renault speakers only. ( Not much space!) The white moulded adapters looks perfect!!

Jossi.

So, if I cut out the speaker cone and possibly some plastic that holds the stock speaker magnet my spare unused speakers should fit?

Just have to double check the depth?

Or is it better to get a 16.5cm speaker? I just had these lying around so thought I’d put them to some use...

Why is the Audi speaker situation so complicated? Argh...

the speaker mounting depth is 50mm:

Speaker Maximum Recommended Power (Watts) (One Speaker, Using Appropriate Crossover)250
Speaker Power Handling RMS (Watts) (One Speaker, Using Appropriate Crossover)125
Continuous RMS Power (Watts) (One Speaker, Using Appropriate Crossover & 1%THD)100

Overall Diameter With Grilles (mm)160
Overall Diameter (mm)130

Installation Cutout Diameter (mm)115

and the Tweeter specs:

Recommended Cable PSC18.1

maybe I should use the smaller speaker for the front doors as I read somewhere that the front doors have less space for speakers than the rear?

look what this dude did...

interesting where he put the front tweeters... I've usually seen tweeters in this location pointing towards passengers or roof above them... but here he is just going across the front like the original door tweeters were configured...

why don't you get original speakers - I just changed my headunit and they sound awesome!

I'd imagine they are cheap as chips from members who have cars for breaking as really only desirable option is the bose set and not standard speakers.
