Rear wheel bearing

The rear wheel bearing on my 2002 1.4tdi makes that much noise that the radio cannot drown it out.
Are they difficult to change.
I have drum brakes on the rear but is the hub the same one used for disc brakes.
Does the bearing come refitted in a hub.
Do I need any special tools to do this job.

This is from my memory like eight months back so I could be mistaken in some detail, but here goes.

First take the drum off.
Then prise the hub bearing cap off, under it you find a twelve notch nut.
Cant remember the size, but rather big. If you are not well equipped you might need to buy the right tool for that nut.
When nut is off, just slide the hub with the bearing integrated, of the stub.
Voila.
Reverse order for mounting.

Rather easy, just two small challenges in my eyes: 1. get the drum off the brake shoes (remember to release the self adjusting wedge through one of the wheel bolt holes). 2. actually have the right tool for the twelve notch nut .

We just changed the rear bearings on Adams A2, it really is a doddle. The bearings come pressed into the hub flange, so just a case of removing the drum, remove the hub nut and just prize the flange out
We bought OEM and they came with new hub nuts and dust covers.

By the way, if you want to fit new drums whilst you’re at it, we have a pair that are only a few months old if you want them for a small fee.
