Recurrent "warped discs"

This youtube clip should explain everything about front wheel bearings - http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=YtU4koy-iUc

We would assume 'shaft' means driveshaft in the UK but maybe things are getting skewed in the translation. The wheel bearing comes as an assembly and includes the wheel and brake disc mounting flange - could this be interpreted as a 'shaft'

Personally I can't see the driveshaft having any influence on the brake disc

Cheers Spike

I think I have a similar issue with the other halfs A2.
Started with a bit of vibration and the odd clonk from the front.
I drove it the other day and lots of wheel vibration that disappeared, and a clonk.
Tonight heard the car turning round on driveway and clear clonking noise on full lock (both directions), and was told vibration was getting worse.
How do you look at top mount, jack up and pry bar?

Cheers Stuart.

Hey, i just ran into this old thread. And wanted to update it in case some one suffer same problem as me.
So the main problem was that I would get warped disc symptoms. When I would change the break discs it would fix the problem for some time but it would come back after a few weeks. I went through 4 discs i think, before I gave up. Any mechanic I would go to would only suggest new discs. But from my experience I knew it wouldn't fix the problem.

One day out of boredom (I was gone refurbish the brakes, but decided to replace them because they looked very sad) I installed new calipers and discs and that fixed the problem.

Many thanks for taking the time to report the cure for your car's issues. All the best 'problem threads' have conclusions. :)

Cheers,

Tom

I had similar problems with the S8. All garages stated that it was warped discs and previous owner had replaced a couple of sets. At the last MOT there was a slight issue on front brake balance and we finished up freeing off the calipers and no more judder.
