removal of rear shoes

hi guys,

Just attempted to replace the rear shoes and am VERY interested as to how some of you have done it, as it looks to me (and elsawin dvd says) that the wheel bearing thing must be removed, which requires a puller and that 12 pin socket, is this really the case?
or did you find a way to get the shoes out without removing it?

I had a go and ended up getting brake fluid everywhere :/

any help would be appreciated.

thanks

Brake shoe removal

Hi there I find the rear shoes are easiest to do if you remove the bolt that holds the brake cylinder in place.Being gentle move the cylinder forward and up.It will move upwards when it has been moved forward as it sits in a key hole type recess. There is enough play in the brake pipe to allow for this. After that you can drop the pre-assembled brake gubbins into place. It will look like an upside down horse shoe at this point. When you have dropped the shoes into place and secured them replace the cylinder:D Be careful with the cylinder as the pistons might try and pop out.I have done the brakes and never once have I touched the bearing.Hope this helps.I have a 52 plate 1.4 tdi I am assuming the brake assembly is the same
