Removing gear selector cables.

I put in down as a 7 thinking that 10 was really easy but of course 1 is really easy to change my 7 to a 3.

@steve54 I found the difficulty was getting my hands underneath the rubber hose!

Can anyone point me the direction of a thread that describes/ shows removal of gear cables, as in replacing the entire cable assembly rather than just removing the cable ends. Looking for advice on easiest approach. Cheers nod.

Did you find the thread, because I'm looking for the same? If you did can you send it to me please?

The gear cables are attached to the top of the gearbox on a cradle held in place by 3 x 10mm bolts. It’s far easier to unbolt this cradle and remove the cables from the car attached to this.

As the cables go through the bulkhead, they are held in place by 2 pieces of c shaped black plastic that clip together at the centre. This needs to be removed in order to release the cables and allow them to be pulled through from the engine bay side.

No photos sorry, but if you follow the cables back to the bulkhead you can’t miss them when feeling by hand.

Just to add to @A2Steve advice, here is @Clackers advice on cable removal, thanks to both for their expert advice..

re gear cables
Remove centre tunnel plastics, undo top two screws holding the gear change tower(in the car), disconnect cables from that tower...next remove all the foam inside the gear cable tunnel in the car.
Next go under car, there is a rubber and plastic grommet holding the cables in place to the bulkhead, peel the rubber back and then the plastic comes apart in two pieces. Unclip the cables from the gearbox tower, and then the twist lock mechanism on the gear cable bracket to the rear of the box, un couple them from there too.
I would then attach some rope to the cables inside the car, and then pull the cables out from under the bonnet...the rope will follow them out, attach to new cables and pull back through into the car...the rest is in reverse to removal..
