Replacement front window screen

Any specific place I should go for a replacement window-screen.. ? RAC window-screens okay for the A2's? A big rock or something hit my front screen coming down the M40 and there is about a 2inch crack on the passenger side. Hopefully the insurance will cover the costs.

Try Autoglass - I had mine replaced by them with no problems at all. If you are fully comp on the insurance, most companies just charge about a £60 fee for a replacement, which doesn;t affect your no-claims, but check the policy details first.

Cheers,

I phoned and it was passed onto RAC windowscreens whom are calling me back later.. I can pay an additional fee extra if I want to choose someone different. Otherwise just first £50... How much does the glass actually cost?

The full dealer price for the screen is £147.85, but you have to add on fitting to that price.

Cheers,

Mike

I've used RAC before (Sheffield office) with another car on a couple of ocassions and they were great. No probelms at all.

Only had one experience with Autoglass (Huddersfield office) which was all
bad leaving me with a car with a leaking windscreen for 2 months.

There similar to the rear screen just more elements which are much smaller. If you got a screen with the elements embeded youd could probaly wire it in to the rear window heat switch and change the fuse/ relay for a larger one.

Is it possible to get a heated windscreen ? how much would one be ? how would it be wired in ?

There is nothing listed in the part catalogue, so unless you can source an aftermarket solution (maybe something like a clear film with elements embedded), then the answer is no.

Cheers,

Mike

Screen Part Numbers

OK Unfortunately need to change my front screen.

Alas this being the 1.2 TDI I know the glass is thinner than the normal one.

I think Erling had a screen changed early on to normal A2 one but was wondering if lighter version is still available.

Teeside Audi only list 8Z0 845 099J and say that DA 004 600 A2 must be bought for full g-tee (adhesive set).

Autoglass list this part number for all A2s. But a friend and Lupo 3L / A2 1.2 expert in Denmark says the correct part number is 8Z0 0845099l

Anyone with a parts book confirm this?

Cheers

The 099L part is the 1.2 TDi part, but is listed as £0.00 which usually means it is discontinued.

Go for the standard screen.

Cheers,

Mike

The crack is growing in this warmer weather!

So I spoke with nottingham audi today and they called Audi UK - apparently the 99L version of the screen is still available to order.

No sure how long it takes though! Listed at £125+VAT

Will see if insurance will still allow £60 excess / no claims free payment option.
