Replacing Drivers Side Top Shock Absorber Mount Access

Hi All

I need to replace both top mounts, looking at the job today ready for when the parts arrive, passenger side has good access, loosed all 3 mounting bolts and apply plenty of W40.

The drivers side is a little more tricky, removed the 3 x M6 bolts that hold the brake fluid reservoir to the bracket but it still isn’t giving me enough access to the 3 x top mount bolts.

Can somebody please tell me the next operation to allow access to the top mount bolts ?

Kind regards

Paul

You don’t want to remove the reservoir from the bracket, you need to remove the whole bracket. 3 x 10mm bolts from memory. Move the whole things to the side and you’ll have much more room.

I struggled like crazy, mine has webasto too, in the end I think a socket spanner saved the day was unable to move the reservoir much at all

Just found a video of a guy changing his shock absorbers and he has left the bracket in place, Im wondering if he cut the bracket to allow the bottom pipe to pass through

If that's the road side guy I found he didn't really explain the crucial part.

Found shocker pinch bolt eroded away and front brake flexi perished

Be very careful if you follow any of that persons videos as he is know for dangerous practices.

Yes, I agree, its the only video I could find with any information on the drivers side top mount

Hi Marshy, you might find some useful info in my post (No62):
