Retrofit Cruise Control: please help me help Audi get it working!

This link is the method I used for installation and it works

http://vwgolfr32.co.uk/A2-CCS.pdf

The second link is to the audi service manual and describes how to test both the stalk and the brake /clutch switches. Please be careful with the link and document I have no idea of the source or legality of the access, it is freely available online but an audi jobsworth may not be happy with its distribution!

Is it the same instructions for my 1.4 petrol A2?

Evening,

There is plenty of useful information freely available regards this retrofit. This link seems pretty good for the 1.4 Petrol:

Also this link should further assist:

Hope this helps.

Kind regards,

Tom

Just a little heads up on the cruise retro fit. If when you check the ECU pin locations and find WIRES connected to those pins then you will have a connector block fitted in the left front footwell to connect to. If on the other hand (like my car ) there are no WIRES in the relevant locations but empty pins then remove those pins and connect the cruise wires in the correct locations. Personally I have used the Cum-Cartec cruise wiring loom with no issues. It has all the correct pins already fitted and a link for the clutch pedal wiring.

Even if there are wires occupying the relevant numbered slots on the multi-pin connector, you can safely remove them as if you trace these back, they’ll terminate at a 17 pin connector next to the engine ECU, but end there, there’s no pins in the mating half of the 17 pin connector.
A rule of thumb is that diesel A2s have no wires installed between the 17 pin block and the engine ECU, most petrols do.

also, please watch the routing of your new loom coming from the stalk - it passes by the steering wheel adjustment mechanism, which is made up of some razor sharp metal plates. I’ve rectified more than a few badly routed installs from other fitters, inc one which had shorted out the wiring when it was trapped in the plates.

What a load of baloney Audi saying the ECU had to be upgraded, be interested in Timmus's view point as to me they simply had no idea what they were doing and not honest enough to admit it!

It's not necessarily baloney - Audi's own tool for coding and diagnostics won't talk to some engine ECUs unless they're at the latest firmware revision. VCDS can do it, which is why people like me and Tom can do it wit hough upgrades, but sometimes dealer-level tools are less flexible.

That sounds to be a real possibility, and another good reason to cherish A2 talent when you find it, both within the Club and at local Indie level.
Mac.

Agree to disagree do you honestly think vcds is better and more capable than the manufacturers diagnostic tool!
The Hella Guttman we have at work can do it and most other things remarkably easy without all the channel number faff. The car was only 13 years old at the time running OBD2.

Yes, on twenty year old engine/car technology. Just the same as VCDS-LITE would be of little use on an e-tron.
Several generations between them, and new tech is rarely backwards compatible, like Windows XP era software does not run on Windows 10 or 11, except, thankfully, vcds!

Sorry hadn't realised you worked in a dealership/motor trade.

OK, I've edited my post above, and apologies for miss leading anyone with an e-tron.
I should have said "... as vcds lite would be of little use on an e-tron ... "
I have never worked in the motor trade. Worked in fuel distribution and measurement for around 35 years, unless that counts.

Like I said agree to disagree however any dealership without the capability of doing basic programming on a 13 year old car (at the time the op posted) isn't worth their salt.
Diagnostic kit we have can easily code keys (with skc sourced elsewhere) and cruise on my 2002 A2 AMF and can equally connect to our latest 72 plate vehicles.
If the diagnostic is prior to OBD2 then any good dealership can and will have full diagnostic capability just like when my friend took his 2000 Honda coupe to Honda for an airbag recall a few months ago.

I know there are good dealerships out there, and yours obviously is one. The OP's experience, and that of many other car owners, shows that the good ones are thin on the ground, and the cost of picking a less than good one will be high, financially and, perhaps, mechanically.

@PlasticMac
Wrong VCDS works on the Audi e-tron. Works on all current models and as more are introduced the software is updated.
VW have implemented Vehicle Diagnostic Protection (or SFD) on new models including the ID range, and they require secure access to the VW servers to change or retrofit anything. I would be surprised if Audi are any different.

MQB evo has changed the game, lots of stuff is now blocked. MQB is still editable at some level. So the 2020 Superb on is a different planet to the 2018 one.
