RNS-E Mk 2 Parking sensor display

Afternoon,

I do believe that something is displayed but not sure it’s what you show above.

I’ll know for certain in the next few weeks when I finally get round to fitting my factory PDC sensors.

I’ll be watching what the responses are from those who have both Factory PDC and RNS-E PU fitted.

Sorry I couldn’t help with your question.

Kind regards,

Tom

If I remember correctly,

I recall Steve @Birchall posted pictures of his RNS-E with PDC in his Holly Grail thread. I’m sure the RNS-E displayed the red and green proximity lines but that was with a rear view camera.

Let’s see what others think as Im confident that I’ve not personally seen a RNS-E in an A2 display the type of image in your post above.
Kind regards,

Tom

I am also curious on this topic. From what I see in the RNS-E encoding options there is an option to enable the OPS.

Captura.JPG

Checking the CAN bus schematics for the Audi A2. I see that the parking sensor control unit and the RNS-E are on a different CAN bus. Therefore, the instrument panel should route the messages from the PDC system with the distance information, to the other data bus so that this information reaches the RNS-E. I don't think our dashboard does this router since no A2 left the factory with RNS-E.

As a test, the parking sensor control unit could be put on the CAN data bus of the RNS-E. As far as I know, the PDC control unit uses the CAN bus to inform itself of the vehicle speed, and this CAN speed message is very likely to be on both data buses (with VCDS you could see if the PDC receives the speed signal). And anyway as far I know, this speed information where it is really used is in cars with a front parking sensor (to deactivate the PDC at a certain speed).

I don't know if master @timmus has done any tests with this RNS-E coding with OPS and PDC system in the same CAN bus, maybe he can help us clarify this issue.

Is this possible to display parking sensor information to the RNS-E from OEM sensors as in the picture.
Afternoon,

I’m now quite a way into investigating this as an option. Stuart from the RNS-E PCBBC website is assisting me to overcome the issues that have presented themselves.

Have a look on the recent posts Project OEM thread, specifically here.

Hopefully I’ll have the answer on how to get this page displayed in our A2s with RNS-E Mk2 along with Read PDC.

Please do give me a week or 2 and I will reveal all, whether that is good or bad news.

Kind regards,

Tom

Hello there,

Whilst conducting tests Stuart has yet to be able to understand how the CANBUS messages are sent along the Drivetrain network. Once he cracks it he will need to get in onto the Infotainment network, this has been done in the past with a CAN Gateway. We are staying to solve this a different way but there are hurdles to climb here.

The possible solution could be to use an 8P0 PDC Control Module, but that would be easy so we’re not going that route as I’d rather avoid having to install Front PDC Sensors.

There might be a solution over the K-Line network as it might be there where the messages are being sent. Time will tell.

If all possible options just don’t work we will just add another item to my Arduino which will take the K-Line messages and pass them into the Infotainment network.

Hope that makes sense as I know I’m not the best at explaining this, it really isn’t my area of expertise, when it is all working it will all be down to Stuart’s dedication.

Kind regards,

Tom

Morning all,

In the next few days I will be able to shown you all what is possible whilst still utilising the factory 8Z0 Rear PDC Control Module. Stuart (PCBBC) has created a small addition for my Arduino UNO to capture K-Line diagnostic messages which then transmits them over the Infotainment CANBUS to the RNS-E.

He informs me that the front bumper sensor bars will still be displayed and that these will be removed on the next FW update on his website. He is working on a few other nice features which I have only seen one of. You’ll not be disappointed at all.

Quite excited about this as I didn’t really want to have a reversing camera installed as this can be pricey. Also I really didn’t want to cut holes in my headlamp washer bumper to fit front PDC sensors.

Once I have the item added to my Arduino UNO and soldered it to the K-Line I will then share my findings.

Kind regards,

Tom

I’d be very interested in this if I had factory PDCs, mine are 3rd party Might change them over for this feature!

It seems a bit strange that the original 8Z PDC control unit does not publish the distance information of the parking sensors on the CAN line. As soon as I can, I will do a cansniffing of the CAN line on which the PDC control unit is connected. The PDC control unit that I used for the retrofit was the 8Z0919283A.

Indeed, if the control unit does not publish the distance information of the sensors on the CAN line, the only way to obtain the information is through the K line.

Thank you very much for the information @2work.

Evening. Can sniffing has been done and so far cannot find anything of use. The K-Line is the way ahead. I think it’s due to the PDC system was never made for the RNS-E.

The RNS-E works with the OPS system which shows both front and rear bumpers. This has been the challenge the last couple of weeks.

Fingers crossed I’ll show you that it now works with an Arduino along with some ancillaries.

Kind regards,

Tom

Has anyone looked at this blog? Among items regarding this RNS-E topic... there is this image (plus others) below to 'wet your appetite'?
As well as a retrofit of OSS to a non OSS A2 Ok its all in Russian (apologises if its not) but many photos & pages pages of work done inc (i think)1.9 conversion swop out...

The blog links you half way into the RU blog so scroll to bottom & there are arrows left or right to click to guide you through pages & pages of really good images....
Thanks to @bono05 for the link!

It will be expensive, unique A2 and the steepest in Russia (and not only). 1.8 T
A lot of interesting solutions! But everything is done as carefully as possible and close to factory solutions.
The display of information from parking sensors to the panel was done using colorMFA. Perhaps for this topic it will be useful.
(sorry for the english ... :( )

I would be interested in how you/ they managed to display the park distance control onto the colorDIS. It is a gadget, I know. But if it's possible why not have it.
Looking forward to any tips and advice .

Hopefully this is a feature that will be added to the A2's Colour DIS firmware. :)

This would be fantastic Tom,

Hopefully what I’ve been working on with Stuart won’t go against what I can have on the Colour DIS when you have stock of the required parts.

I’m so looking forward to the upgrade.

Kind regards,

Tom

Hello again,

For those of you who aren’t (why aren’t you?) thinking of adding the glorious looking Colour DIS (supplied and fitted by Tom @timmus) but still want the Bumper Sensor Display Page on your RNS-E PU, have a look here for the parts required.

I will have this all fitted later next week and will report my findings.

Kind regards,

Tom
