RNSE Battery Drain

Does anyone have any experience of a battery drian following fit of RNSE unit? The unit was from an A6 I believe and works fine. I'm not using the car daily at the moment, so when leaving the car unattended for over 24 hours came back to a flat battery - totally dead. Charged the battery, refitted the symphony unit and no issues. Refit the RNSE and same problem, 24-48 hours and dead battery.

Its a Bose equipped car, but I wondered if there is a wiring change I need to carry out to prevent this, or if anyone has any ideas on what might be causing this - firmware on the RNSE, etc?

Any ideas very much appreciated as I like the nav:)

How do you know that it is the RNS-E causing your battery problem? Remove the fuse and see if it still happens.

If the battery doesn't drain when the Symphony unit is connected but does drain when the RNS-E unit is connected, then I can only assume this is a wiring issue, and I imagine it's a problem with the QuadLock to miniISO adapter.

I am yet to see an off-the-shelf QuadLock to miniISO adapter that is wired correctly for an A2 with Bose. Whenever I do RNS-E retrofits for club members, I invariably have to make changes to the adapter wiring in order for it to be correct.
Whilst the Bose system will work (sound comes out of all the speakers), RNS-E need to be told that it's connected to a Bose system in two ways. Firstly, it needs to be correctly coded, and secondly it needs to be correctly earthed. It's likely that the earthing of your QuadLock to miniISO adapter isn't right, resulting in electrical current draining to earth.

Study the RNS-E pinout and accurately compare it to your adapter wiring and you'll probably notice a few omissions and/or a few wires that aren't where they're supposed to be.

Cheers,

Tom
