This question is for friend's A2 but you guys are great at answering questions so thought you might be able to advise.

My pals windscreen has been scuffed and it appears that the wiper blade might be to blame. He also has a wee chip in it so was going to call insurance to get the chip fixed, can the guys who repair chips do anything with scuffed windscreens ? or would it need to be replaced ? he will obviously be buying a new blade for when its fixed

cheers

The blade itself won't scuff a screen, but if the rubber has been dragging an abrasive, such as fine sand particles, then it's very easy to mark the glass.

The best bet is to clean the blade on a regular basis, by lifting it up and wiping it. Also, you should wipe down the 'parking area', where the blade sits at its rest position, so that any build up is removed.

Be careful when you drop the blade back down too, as you can easily chip the windscreen if you just let it go. There is normally a small rubber bump stop on the back of the arm, but sometimes it goes missing, and then you can get metal on glass contact, which is not good.

Cheers,

Mike

mine has done the same too, despite regular cleaning, I have just left mine... I too have a chip, but it passes the mot, and usually when you get a replacment windscreen, they never seem to do one's with the embedded tint in.

The replacement screen I had came with the shadeband - it was from Autoglass and they told me that ALL their Audi screens were OE, not aftermarket, and in the case of the A2 in particular, there was no such thing as an aftermarket screen.

There are only 2 screens listed on the parts catalogue, one for the 1.2TDi model and one for all the rest. Both have shadebands.

Cheers,

Mike
