Seat belt warning

Anyone ever wondered about seat belt warning? A2 has seat belt warning lamp on instrument cluster (it is working also). But haven't found any information on google or this forum. Vag com coding, or retrofit?

This is what the owners manual says -

The warning lamp lights up for a few seconds when the ignition is switched on as a reminder to put on the seat belts

Cheers Spike

Back to the old topic.

A2 has "gong" beep and seat belt warning lamp, but i never noticed as you told Spike. Also, tried on 2003 A2, no warning, neither ignition neither on start.

That was my question in first post. Do You know the coding, because I cant find any information on the internet.

In Address 17 - Instruments
Check and note the existing coding (my code for a UK spec 1.4 tdi with 34L fuel tank is 09430)
For seat belt warning, add 2 to the first two numbers of the code (For my code this would become 11430)

Cheers Spike

Yes I have red lamp on dash. But it turns off after 10 seconds even if seat belt are not fasten. So not useful …

John you can't have had the "pleasure" of driving in Italy. Done it twice and will never do it again! Car dents are mandatory there.

Shame if someone needs a dash light to tell them to put a seat belt on. Even if functional will only be for the front seats.....

I would probably be more worried about time expired air bags than seat belt warning light out there. Obviously time expired air bags already effect all of us now.

Some good news - It used to be 14 years but now Elsawin says this is no longer a requirement - See bullet point 4 lines up from bottom

Cheers Spike

I don't where and when did you travel to Italy but I can assure you that all cars are perfectly working and all car bodies are without dents. We are not an underdeveloped country. I live near Milano, I travel in UK for job and I haven't seen such a difference amoung UK cars and Italian cars.
Drivers have heavy fine if passengers don't use seat belts, even in rear seats.
My request for a seat belt chime were to be sure that also passenger use seat belt because sometimes I have front passenger and they might forget to use seat belt. Since I have to pay fine and I lose driving license point this could help me.
I am sorry you have a wrong idea of my country.
Please apologize me for my english....

Rome in 2015 and Turin in 2009. Not saying Italian driving is worse than UK nor slandering anyone Italian. Both times my hire car was damaged. In Turin the right rear wing was badly dented and in Rome a bus hit the side of the parked car. First time I did not have enough damage insurance ( do not even remember it being offered to me ) so had to pay a lot of money for that but the second one I had extra insurance that did cover all damage.

OK back to the seat belt warning. Here in the UK the driver is also responsible for all passengers to wear the belt. From what I can gather the A2 warning does not remain on unlike later cars and the chime if selectable or even if the car does have that facility would also turn off when the light went off. I do not know either if someone took their belt off while driving if the warning would reactivate. There may be variation on how the system works in different markets.

Perhaps if the A2 system does not work as you hope then think about fitting an after market seat belt warning system to your car. There appear to be a few available.

Hi Audifan,
Yes it does operate on passenger seat as mine goes off if I’ve got to much stuff in my work daypack on the seat when driving.

It seems you have been unlucky in Italy. Rome is surely the most chaotic city for traffic in Italy but Turin it is okay.
I have the warning on A4 that's why I have searched a way to activate it also on A2. Probably there is no occupancy sensor is the seat so this function cannot be done. Thanks anyway !!
