Seat refurbishment

I really like cloth sport seats, what I hate is the bolster softening and the cloth thinning. Surely someone has experience of a good company that can take my seat and re-trim it with new bolster sides and hand it back as new?
Has anyone undergone this yet and can hint a costs?
Audi tt leather seats appeals but be nice to keep original.

I’ve had this done twice, once in Adams A2 and more recently my daughters A2. Both had sports seats and both over £3k for leather, including the door cards and steering wheel. They also added heating pads to the front seats.
I appreciate that’s a lot of money, but it really does make the A2 special.

Here’s my daughters A2 that is Sorn at present

I'm not an expert but the issue with different bolster sides, I had looked into this as well before as I felt need might need a bit more side support during faster turning, is the side airbags. It would be way more compicated/expensive to redesign the seats and add the airbags too.
If you wanna keep oem just look for 1.6 Fsi seats, they have higher seat bolsters and have the same width. You've got the 90hp A2, not sure it might be the same seats though. Check out other projects and on this link for similar idea.

The FSi seats are the same as any other A2. There are two types of seat regarding the shape, Standard/SE and sport seats. Nothing more.

as @CrispyEdd has said he likes original cloth, I would imagine the difficulty would be an upholsterer sourcing 20 year old Audi speced cloth

I would like to “magic” a new driver’s seat for mine

Yes, I suspect the seats would have to be entirely retrimmed and the cost wouldn’t be too far behind trimming in leather. Either way, it can be done and the bolsters can be rebuilt, as I’ve proved. But maybe not in original Audi fabric.

If you have very deep pockets you may be able to 'magic' something new at Audi Tradition. I looked at sport seats recently in Matrix cloth, my eyes are still watering.

Drivers Seat Sports Matrix Cloth - No guarantee this is correct!

Seat Cover 8Z0881405S RMF €232.65.
Backrest Cover 8Z0881806N RMF €272.51

Plus shipping and customs charges(?). (AT prices have since increased by 3%)

Sport driver's seat foam is not available but passenger is for a mere €181.

Wow, thnaks Andrew, looks like its a case of digging aorund the cottage industry of england to find someone skilled and not crazy on price. Or buy a leather set low milage! I guess these are getting old now and we have to accept some things are becoming rare.

Thanks Ian, sounds like if its going to be done it has to be done right no two ways about it! Your seats look better quality than standard cars, right up there with quality. As you alluded to, heated leather is a must in winter. MAybe a seat cover will preserve my seat for a few years while I save up then. THe drivers side bolsters take a beating form me being 6ft3 I just cant get out or in without dragging across them.

The ideal compromise is the leather/alcantara sport sports seat. Comfy like cloth but with far more hard wearing leather bolsters. Finding them is the tricky bit. I reckon any decent leather or leather/alcantara is £500 + now?

@CrispyEdd

I am in the same boat, my cabin condition is quite good except for the drivers seat (Sport, Matrix cloth), it annoys and makes me sad and dearly would love to correct. Like you on the side nearest the door bolster cloth wrinkling, bolster somewhat flat and the seam on the backrest is about to burst.

An idea I have raised before you and others may care to pursue. There must be lots of LHD passenger seats, our drivers side of course, that are going to the incinerator/landfill or available on the used market. I expect generally speaking these will be in excellent condition only rarely having been sat on. I regularly trawl EU Ebays directly, the German Ebay is fruitful, the magic word is 'sitz' with refinements. I cannot see any differences between EU and UK seats.

The drawback is shipping, often no shipping detail to UK which I guess means 'contact seller' but when quoted is about €25. Okay not cheap but overall I would willingly pay up to £150 for a good condition sports seat in Matrix cloth to rectify my sadness.

Alas I have never seen Matrix but have seen several of our designs, eg. Satellite which may interest others. I am beginning to think Matrix cloth was not available in the EU and UK specific, anyone know? I will post on the German A2 club site and ask if nobody knows here.
