Service by "A for Audi" in Glasgow

Hi,

I am about to get my latest service done at 60,000 miles.
It's a 52 plate so it's overdue for a cambelt change too I reckon - no indication in the service manual of it ever haing been done, I've had it since 35,000 miles and had it serviced just before 40,000.
I'll get the water pump changed while it's in.
Local Audi authorised VW garage were going to take £675.00 off me so I rang "A For Audi" in Glasgow and got a quote for £510 from them. Now I have got some haggling to do with the VW garage and will let you all know what the outcome is.

But has anyone on the forum dealt with A For Audi in Glasgow?

They do remaps too, I was thinking, with the money I can save from taking it in to them I might get this done too while it's in.:D

Well the local Audi authorised VW garage matched "A for Audi":)
Round 3 commences tomorrow. :D

Who is the authorised Audi repairer in Lanarkshire? I havent used A for Audi but will be interested in your experience whichever you use. I have used Ingram Audi for many years (now Ingram approved Audi since the franchises were changed) they have always been first class whether its sales, service or bodyshop)Ayr is a bit far to travel from Lanark and vice versa!:) But Glasgow is fine if A for Audi are rated.

I must remember to check this forum regularly and keep up with other posters requests for information, sorry.

I went with Verve between Carluke\Wishaw (my local approved Audi garage). They had the car for a day and a half  they must have had some problems as I thought, though expensive, the cambelt and water pump replacement would be a straightforward job.
I got the use of a brand new A3 1.9TDI s-line for a day and a half though. I enjoyed it but going back to a driving position so low to the ground took a bit of getting used to. ;)

I asked to see the fuel filter after it's replacement, as I am concerned that it might be getting dirty due to bad batches of biodiesel. But I never got to see it as they did not replace it (looking at the invoice). Is this not standard every long life service?

I may try replacing the fuel filter myself now, I know it's awkward but If I have problems I may just give Dougans in Newmains a call (thanks davidmac).

I used Verve last service at ~40,000 miles (my first with this car) no complaints, apart from although they gave it a "longlife" service I don't think that they reset the service indicator to variable service intervals. After that service the indicator said 21800 and guess what, after almost exactly that mileage it said that it wanted another service. I needed the cambelt done anyway so I bit the bullet and went along with the service indicator. The indicator says 9300 after the latest service and I wil be keeping my eye on it this time. I do a fair amout of miles a year (20,000 in the last 1.5 years) and mostly a long drive down to work and back every day with very few short trips so I would hope to get more than 20,000 miles between services.

Verve nearly stiffed me £40 for a coolant fluid change last time but I decided that I could do that much myself. I see that this time they stiffed me for £10.90 for coolant fluid but as they were replacing the water pump anyway at least the bill was not £30 labour just for draining and refilling.

Sorry, murdo, I can't say that I could recommend that you travel up from Ayr to Wisahaw, especially if you rate Ingrams as first class.

I've had a new thought about the remap from A for Audi though, since I did not save as much as I could have from the service/cambelt. With the money that I save from running the A2 on 100% home made biodiesel (if I ever get this processor built, I'm still waiting for that old hot water cylinder - see my other posts), maybe I can afford that oh so essential  remap. Also remapping after the engine gets used to my homebrew might be a better plan anyway.

The fuel filter replacement is required at the second VSI (i.e. 40K) but not at the third one - therefore they have serviced your car as required.
I suspected as much, looks like I will be giving it a go myself, wish me luck.

Resetting the variable service will say it is next due in 9300 miles - once you have driven 300 miles check it again at which point it should go up to circa 20,000 - if it goes down to 9000 miles then it is probably set for fixed. Why VSI resets don't have a different figure from fixed servicing is beyond me...
So I must have been mistaken that after the last service it was set at 21800 then?

Thanks ULP :)
