Just had 2nd full long-life service, water pump renewed and timing belt plus tensioners done for £460 in a VW specialised private garage. Audi wanted £600+.
Next day needed new front tyre due to a wall puncture so changed the pair (dunlop)for £200.

Just had second service - £352.72 which included repair to fault with indicators and replacement ashtray. Also supplied own longlife oil.
Brake fluid wasnt changed and is due, so having that done at independant garage on Monday along with the coil spring.
Appear to have been overcharged for the fuel filter -£45.68 ... the last one two years ago was £23!!!
No news on open sky roof yet. It's still well and truly broken and letting in an alarming amount of wind noise from the middle section. Waiting on a response from the customer service department.

Just replaced my fuel filter(1.4petrol) for a grand total of £6.15.
Took all of 10 mins to replace.
Jack car up ,loosen off 1 screw on bracket.
Unclip the fuel lines.
Remove old filter.
Replace with new filter(noting correct fuel flow direction indicated by arrow on the body of the filter)
Re-tighten screw.
Clip fuel lines back on.
Lower car.
Job done!

Hi Heather
Did you query the price of your fuel filter? The early diesel ones cost around £25(as you thought) but are are a pig to change. Not sure when it happened but later cars have a different design which simplifies replacement - just wondered if Audi have obsoleted the old style and now sell a conversion kit to install the later filter housing and element assy. This would explain the near £50 price tag. If the theory is correct, future element changes should be a lot cheaper

Cheers Spike

Morning Spike,
Only noticed the price difference when i got home and compared the invoice from the first service. I rang and checked the price with two more dealers, Audi Chesterfield & Lincoln and they both quoted me £24 for a fuel filter.
Chesterfield said that the price i have been charged would include the housing as well, but my invoice stated fuel filter only and no mention of new housing.

I've been waiting for three days now for a response from customer service with regards repairs to the roof, so will query the fuel filter when i next speak with Derby Audi.

Thanks,
Heather

Just checked prices on the Audi parts suppliers website I get my bits from, and it would appear that fuelfilters for the TDI model did change for the 2003 model year onwards.

Prices for the earlier model are around £19 ,for the later model are about £22.

The prices are for MANN ones ,who produce most original filters for Audi anyway.
I can't imagine Audi's prices are much more so I think you have been overcharged for the Fuel filter as it stands.

Diesel Fuel Filter

Yep agree with the comments - changing the earlier filter is an absolute pig. So bad that I gave up! How you are supposed to get it off is beyond me there is no room at all!

Just got a price from Lancaster Audi for a cam belt change.....wait for it...... £498!

Father-in-Law showed them the deal from Stoke Audi (£275) and asked them if they could match it they would get his custom. They said they couldn't afford to do it - labour charge alone is greater.

Another customer lost and 2001 A2 is on route to Stoke next Monday booked in for the agreed price. I know where I'll be going for my next VSI service

Just had the first variable service at Northfield Audi, the whole experience being pretty good, I suspect mainly due to Northfield being flexible in their approach to customer service.
When I purchased the A2 12 months ago with 9K on the clock, the first thing was to get the used longlife oil out and some new clean 505.01 oil in it place which I have replaced every 6k miles. I also changed all the remaining filters ( air, plenum and fuel ) over the last 6 months, so when it came time to arrange for the service I told Northfield that I did not want the oil or any of the filters replacing as they had already been done.
They were quite accommodating asking for proof of parts purchased were original Audi and that the oil replaced was within spec, They said they would carry out an inspection service which would cost £138, and that the warranty would still be in place. I was quite pleased with this result as a full service would have cost about £360 including parts, which means I have saved approx £120 once I take into account the cost of parts and oil on top of the £138 charged by Northfield. Oh I also got a A3 2.0 TDI as a courtesy car for the day. I know that not everybody has either the time or inclination to carry out serving themselves but it does demonstrate what can be saved.
BTW I did notice that the Service indicator had been reset but the mileage to the next service is now 9500, I will watch this carefully over the next few weeks as I guess they have reset it to Fixed rather than Variable service.

Just as a matter of interest I've been ringing round for a service quote as mine approaches 40,000 miles. This is a B service I believe. Quotes have ranged between £351 and £400 at Yorkshire main dealers.
Both Doncaster Audi and Hull Audi (part of the same franchise) have now introduced 20% off labour for cars over three years old. That brought their quote down to £288.
I've found one specialist who quotes £147 plus VAT for the main service but suggested that the cambelt would also need changing at a cost of £340 plus VAT (including tensioners and rollers etc).
Now I've rung several Audi dealers who state that it should be changed at 60,000 miles but only checked at this service due to the age of the car.
The Specialist indicated that it should be changed at 5 years old. I'm tempted to just have it checked for wear at the moment and go with Audi's advice.
