Service indicator re-set

I have just had my A2 TDi serviced and the cam belt changed (80k miles) by my local VW dealer, for two reasons. It a garage I know well and trust, and they were £150 cheaper than the local Audi service centre (which is actually a Seat dealer anyway). They have done a good job and I am pleased with the outcome, but for one issue.

When they re-set the service indicator, it has gone back to the 10k service interval, not the long life one, and is now reading "Next service in 9300 miles" I queried this, they hooked up their computer again, but they say they no longer have the correct Audi software to re-set this properly to long life

This means I now have to go cap in hand back to the Audi place and ask them to fix it, which they may or may not do.

Any other suggestions?

Thanks

John,

Are you certain that they have not been able to reset for variable servicing?

I thought that 9300 was the variable reset value and the engine and sensors then calculate servicing based upon miles driven, how hard the vehicle is driven, frequency, oil contamination and so forth; the trip increasing or decreasing accordingly. Having had two variable services so far; 9300 has been my reset value.

Ah ... fascinating! :)

Perhaps I do not have a problem after all, although the Tech seemed baffled by this. I'll wait and see what this turns into after a few miles.

Thanks

I seem to differ between dealers what it says on the information display after service, even though programmed as variable service intervals. Mine said for the last two services "Next service in 50000 kms" which is equal to approx 30000 miles. Audi dealer.

You were right Darren. The indicator sulked at 9300 for a few days while I pottered around town, but after my normal weekend run down to Newcastle, I noticed this morning that it has changed to 15,500.

I guess the VW folk did re-set it properly, even if they did not appear to know they had done so!

:D
