Service Intervals - 9300 to 5300 in a wk!

Hi all

I bought my 04 TDI Colour Storm last week and already love it to bits but noticed today that the service interval has dropped from 9300 miles to 5300 in only a week. I understand that the figure is calculated on the type of journies completed, cold starts etc but didn't expect the figure to plummet that far.

The car has 20k on and had a new cambelt fitted by the Audi dealership following my test drive. At that time the interval showed as 9300 and in the last week I've done less than 500 miles.

I've checked the existing posts and couldnt find any information on this. Has anyone got any ideas? I'm hoping to call the dealership later this week to query it but wanted to go armed, just in case!

Thanks for your help in advance.

Well done and congrats on having an '04 TDi with only 20k miles. Nice one! Ref your service display, Id give it a bit of time to iron itself out. The car has been used to doing less than 5k a year - so I am sure this will even itself out with your new journey habits. If not, look for Vag com members in your area and try to get a scan just in case theres a problem. I'm sure all is Ok though. Enjoy your low mileage gem - is this the one advertised at Audi recently - the colour/model/mileage rings a bell :D

Welcome fellow A2 driver!

Hi there,
It is the one advertised in Audi recently at the Macclesfield dealership. I know this because the OP is my sister! She used to have an '04 Yaris D4D (I used to have a W reg 1.0 litre Yaris GS) and it started to get problems and she had to look for a replacement. After a lot of of research, she decided on an A2 after driving mine (she is very clever you see!). She couldn't believe the mileage of the Colour Storm as mine is an 05 with only 35k on the clock.

She was a little concerned after the 9300miles service interval suddenly changed to the current 5300miles, so I suggested consulting the oracle that is this forum. I knew the mileage left would change on the VSI setting but wasn't sure with hers being on the standard service interval. I've had so much help and assistance over the years here that I just said ask here first before speaking to the dealer.

Welcome to the club Claire!!!! You can do A2 spotting and grinning like a cheshire cat like we do (maybe that's just me then...).

Cheers
Dave

Hi Murdo

Many thanks for the super fast response & advice. Fingers crossed things will just settle.

My brother has already beat me to it but as he says, its the same car you spotted on audi. Within 24hrs of me seeing it online, I'd signed on the dotted line and now sooo glad I did. Loving every second of it.

And terrible to admit, I'm also grinning everytime I see another A2!

Thanks again
Claire

Hi Clur23,

Mine did the same thing. I bought mine in Nov last year with 19200 on the clock and it stated service due at 8000 something miles, it then dropped in intervals to a low of 5100 at one point and is now on 8900 currently.

Hope this helps and welcome to the fold! :D

Hi Clur, welcome to the A2oc
In addition to your brother blowing your cover Claire, he indicated your car was on fixed interval servicing - 9300 miles or 1 year, whichever comes first.
I have my car set on fixed servicing and only did 5000 miles this year. I did not check the interim miles to next service figures but as the 12month interval approached, the '1500 miles to next service' warning appeared. I'm guessing that the engine ECU computes your monthly mileage and adjusts the service countdown accordingly.
I have just serviced my car and reset the indicator so will keep an eye on the service mileage and see if relates to monthly useage.

Cheers Spike
