Do not get my A2 until 1/8/21.......

Knowing that the car has not been used for awhile (will get it with new timing belt/water pump etc) and having read the previous on fuel filter problems, sump plug stripped problems and spark plug/coil problems.... I think I shall put it into Audi they will at least use all correct parts.... probably let me know if anything else is outstanding or needs looking at. Premium price, probably, but I will sleep at night.

On the face of it, that sounds like a good idea. However, given that A2s are now at least 16 years old, you might find that the main dealer doesn't have any technicians with experience of them. I have always used VAG independents who, if asked, will use OEM parts and provide good service on the basis that you will be a regular customer if you're happy with their work; whereas the main dealer will undoubtedly have regular income from owners of newer models.

Fab responses, so most appreciated.

Can anyone recommend a VAG indie West of Scotland. I know of one in Ayr, he has worked on my VW Caddy not keen on using him.
Cheers
Paul

Another one saying find a VAG indie. It might help if you tell us more precisely where you are based.

I would like to think that there are members up there who could advise. Our little aluminium beasties do not respond well to the people who don't understand them. Main dealers, on the whole, won't even know what they are, most of the staff would have been in short trousers when these were current.

I have a Saab 9-3 Yellow convertible, not many of them around, with low mileage. Only allow specialist garages to tend to that. I guess I will equally treat the A2 to same criteria. Intend on having it for some time and, will be getting another at some point in the future.

There's nothing to be particularly concerned about with the A2 but they have their little quirks like every car does but the people and wealth of knowledge on here will be your greatest asset ?

As you are going to be a new owner, I strongly suggest you get the following very soon after purchase..

At least a second working key.
VCDS to diagnose issues and clear faults - not worth wasting money on a generic reader unless a good one.
A good electrical test meter.
Owners handbook.

You could help yourself more by being more specific with the registration process where you filled in your location.
Would also help if you quote the engine type or engine code when requesting help especially if they need to work on your car. Silly locations are the worst e.g. deep south, oop north, typing on my keyboard.... you get the idea.

This is very important. There is a lot of fragile plastic and aluminium areas under the car so it MUST BE JACKED CORRECTLY to prevent expensive damage.

Importantly enjoy the car and we are here to help you so just ask.
