Shady Sellers

Hi All

It’s me again the girl buying the 04 tdi.

Well I am so angry, basically as you all know the sale was held up because the buyer had no log book, anyway a week ago he called me and said it was on its way, we agreed a price and I booked a inspection. They only day he could do it was about 4 days latter. Anyway the say before the inspection I get a text telling me he has sold it for £50.00 more than the price we agreed.

I find this really shady and naturally I am disappointed.

Today I have been offered a 05 (53) plate TDI SE that only has 40,000 miles on the clock, however I am unsure about the colour, it’s a light blue silver one and has no glass roof. Also the 6 CD changer doesn’t load and the button for fuel cap doesn’t work so you have to open it manually. It has no service history and has not had its cambelt done, the man has no idea what service it is on, but said it has been done at local garages, so this may be a problem. I have told him to press the button by the clock to check when it is and I am awaiting this news. He said I can have it for £5,800.00, seems like a bargain, no?

It is down south, I am up north so I think I am going to use that inspection I have paid for to check it and if they say it is OK I think I will get the train down and drive it back up north.

What do you guys think and of these little problems sound like developing into biggies?

Thanks

Melly

Hello Melly,

Sounds like the first seller was someone to stay clear of anyway, so no real loss there.

As for this second one, it doesn't inspire me I'm afraid.

For starters, you say it's an '05' one. If you mean 2005, then either something is dodgy, or it's on a private plate, as a 53 plate runs from September 2003 to February 2004.

The cd player not loading will be curtains for it reall, but if it's a Symphony, then they are available second hand for £100 or so. The fuel cap problem could be the switch or the solenoid. If it's the former, it's about £13 to replace, if the latter, a fair bit more.

The worrying thing is the lack of history and not having the cambelt means adding £300 or so to the cost.

Where abouts are you 'up north', as I'm this way too (see the Googlemap) and would be glad to help out if I can. To be honest, I'd not bother - wait for one to come up more locally.

Cheers,

Mike

Must say I agree with Skipton, it doesn't sound like a good car, as long as you are realistic the right car will always come up.

Hi all

The car is a 04, typing error!

I think I am going to go for it and have it inspected on Monday and then if they say it is OK get the train down and fetch it on Tuesday.

I can get the cambelt done for 240 pounds at a local VW garage and that includes the pullys, water pump etc.

I think it is a very good price, also got 12 months MOT and computer says next service in just over 9000 miles.

Will let you all know how I get on.

Thanks again for your help

Melly x

Did you get the car Melly??

I'm also up north, I had the same problem when trying to find a suitable A2, often they were too far away, but if you didn't go ahead and buy the one down south keep looking there are good one's that come up nearer to home!

Most of the good ones I saw when I was looking was north... leeds, newcastle, and scotland area.

Hi all

No I didn't get the car, it was a horror!!!

The bonnet had been sprayed, as had the bumpers, the wheel arch on the drivers side had cracks and some bits on the underside were brand new and still had clean new audi stickers on them, there were a few other problems with it too.

I will wait around until something comes up, I have been driving my dads massive car for two months and I like it and I think should I buy a bigger car? But then the road tax and MPG make me want the A2 and besides I can't find anything else that I want to spend my money on.

Due to migration to OZ in Feb 2008,I shall probably have my A2 coming up for sale in the near future if you interested "Missmelly".

Its a 2001(51 Reg) SE with a petrol engine.

Its in excellent allround condition, and has had the cambelt replaced earlier this year(By Stoke Audi) so that won't need doing, and has recently had oil, filter, plugs,Fuel filter and Outer CV boots replaced.

Looking for around 5k or thereabouts, if your interested PM me.
I'm near Manchester geographically by the way.

"DAZ A4GONE"
Wherabouts in OZ are you going ,not Perth by anychance?

No, I'm heading to Adelaide. I looked into shipping the A2 over in the container with the furniture but it appears Audi never sold them on OZ.

I briefly considering taking ours as well, but as you say they never sold them over there,so what with the tax you have to pay on imports and getting spares it just wasn't worth it.

Best of luck in Adelaide.

P.S. Have you got a full or part container, either way can you give me a indication of your costs for it,also what removal/shipping company are you using?

Cheers

We have a 20ft container with a company called PSS and costs £3350.

The dogs flight to OZ costs £1700:eek: Go figure when mine costs £630

i have a funny feeling my friend has just bought the dodgy tdi, it was on ebay finishing tonight. has faulty cd and fuel filler guy is in harlow essex. my mate won't have a car with no fsh. i'm going to warn him off.

i often wondered why people copy pics to sell a non exsisting car on ebay, maybe to leg it with the paypal deposit? or con an overseas buyer?
