Should I bother buying diesel ?!!

Diesel will be arpund for a long time yet. There is no viable alternative for HGVs, especially electric.
So I assume all trucks n vans will be banned from struggling inner cities? Just another nail in their coffin.
 
The move to electric cars in cities is nothing to do with energy efficiency, it is about where emissions are created. If it is at the power station, or the battery manufacturing plant, ideally many thousands of miles away, that is ok.

Hydrogen is a dead end. 90% of hydrogen is made from natural gas, so not particularly green, at least at the moment. But the biggest drawback is the energy required to compress the hydrogen; it is 3x the eventual energy content of the tank and it's not recovered. So very poor energy efficiency.

I can’t see that you have a word with Captain Kirk of the enterprise as his ship runs on compressed hydrogen gives him warp matter ??? and more torque than a diesel ?
 
There are quite a few battery technologies in development that may improve the range and cost issues.

There is quite promising lithium-sulfur which would be a good bit cheaper, use little rare material and has an energy capacity that’s theoretically about 5x lithium ion. If they can sort the number of charge cycles problem. They degrade quite quickly at the moment.

A lithium ion battery can be charged to not quite full and discharged to not quite empty a couple of thousand times without taking too much life out of it. The sulfur batteries are apparently struggling at 500 cycles and 80% residual power. Maybe another couple of years...

If I start now then the batteries could probably just be taken off of a second hand spaceship by the time I’m ready for them.

In my case, going for diesel is a very bad idea unless you buy a brand new EURO6 car.

Used diesel cars are pretty much a dead market for those that live in the capitals and other big cities in Belgium because in 2022 diesels with EURO4 norms are out of those cities.

It already began for the older models EURO1,2 and next year its going to be the turn of the EURO3 and unfortunately my 1.4 TDI is one of those.

We still can keep using it and pay the fines (350euros). How will we get caught ? The state did put cameras (like the speed radar if we may say) just to spot those cars and is planning to put even more. So that fine isn't just a one time pay... Probably an expensive price at the end of the year :)

So yes, I'm going for a petrol car and I'll buy probably a new car in the few next years when the politicians and the cars manufacturers are settled and made their big decision.

Until then I'm getting that sweet FSI unless the flap problem is too big and if its the case unfortunately I'll have to get another used car that isn't an A2 as there's not much of FSI around here...

And yet they’re developing hydrogen cars for Le Mans, the mission H24 project will be running soon in garage 56, Le Mans prototypes a lot of technology that eventually ends up on our roads

My BHC (TDi 75?) Colour storm is showing as being chargeable in the ULEZ ?

My R32 however meets the emission standards and is not chargeable! ?
 
Mine is ok for the ulez, look at the screen shot of my last post.

It's not! It needs to be Euro 6. I have also had problems with TfL; they didn't think that a Euro 4 diesel was built in 1999!
