Should the locks click on ignition??

Should their be a soft click from the locks when all doors are closed and the ignition key is turned to the live position?
This question is for anyone who has an A2 in perfect working order or as Audi intended from new.
I'm asking because I had the double click noise from the locks on start up, pinned it down to the rear drivers side lock faulty. Fixed it by cleaning the catch microswitch and re flowing the circuit board. Dash door open and interior light now work correctly. All doors and tail gate now work as they should on dash display and interior light. Remote locking works perfectly.
The annoying double clunk has gone but I still hear a soft clunk from the locks when key is turn to on.
Is this correct to spec?
Judging by various posts many people have issues with the locks (but they work OK) I would just like to know if noise or no noise is the standard.
Thanks.

No, the locks should remain totally silent as the ignition is switched on. A single click sounds reminiscent of a CCCU issue, like when it locks every 30 seconds when it has a fault. A VCDS scan by a knowledgeable member should help pin down the problem.

it shouldn't as above, it could also be a faulty door switch.

Do the interior light work from every door ?

Thanks for the tip. I have VCDS but just the lite version so will take a look, do you know if that version shows up all faults on the locks?

Hi Neil

It should do, the restrictions seem to be around accessing all measuring blocks and things like adaption

Best wishes

Justin

Yes, the light comes on from each door. I am wondering if it could be a bad connection to one of the other micro switches in the locks which handle locked/unlock rather than the door open micro switch that triggers the lights.

I know it doesn't talk to some modules in the car, the CCCU being one of them. Sorry but I don't know if that includes the locks or not though.

There is, as far as I know anyway, no technical reason for VCDS Lite not to communicate with all controllers.
Ross-Tech do recommend changing the latency setting, (Device Manager > Hardware > Advanced), to 2, if you experience comms problems with KKL USB to Serial cables.
Mac.

Just scanned with VCDS lite, cleared the codes, turned it on and off a few times then had a look at the fault codes. Sure enough I get
01561 left rear door
61-00 - Won't De-Safe
So I am going to pull that door lock apart (I'm getting good at this now 😂) and check the internal Micro switches and circuit connections. I will update with what happens.

Good Morning All,

Which Lite? Registered or not registered.

Andy
Fixed! Cleaned and checked the micro switches in the left rear door lock. They all checked out on the meter OK so I re flowed all of the circuit board joints. Plugged back in now everything works. Best of all no clicks when the ignition key is turned on. Very happy😁.
My conclusion is that it was dry joints on both the rear lock circuit boards and a dirty Micro switch on the right rear door closed switch.
Thanks everyone.
