Site outage and resolution - April 2020

Admin Team
Evening all,

I hope you, your families and your loved ones remain safe and well during these unprecedented times.

This is just a quick note to advise you that we hope that we have now addressed the outages that have plagued the forum over the past few days. The team evaluated the options available to rectify the issues in the long term and have taken the decision to upgrade the disk space of our site. This decision has been made in the interests of retaining a smooth and efficient forum for our members, but does come at a financial cost. At this juncture, it is one we are able to bear as a club.

I would like to thank @ben for his sterling work to manage through the transition/upgrade. The change not only gives us double our previous storage capacity but combines this with double the memory. This should make the site slicker in general operation for you all. Ben has also updated all of the associated plug-in elements that we use, so we are good to go in effect for a good while yet.

One final thing, it had become apparent that the profile posts were erroneously misinterpreted as private messages. On many occasions this resulted in personal data residing in the public domain. To protect members and ensure private matters are private, a decision has been made to disable the public profile posts. This should make one to one contact much more straightforward for all.

Once again, my thanks to Ben for managing the site over the many, many years and during this latest crisis. Stay safe and well everyone, and enjoy the forum and our shared passion that is the Audi A2.

Much appreciated. When I could not get to the site I resorted to signing up to the Facebook group to see if it was a known problem. So although I eschew Social media generally it has it’s uses ( being sure I had the right Facebook site did present a slight challenge.

We’ve recently made some changes to the page name on Facebook and added the club logo so that there is no ambiguity going forward. ?

Apologies for not spotting the outage sooner. I’ll update my auto notifications.

Thanks again @ben for your actions in resolving the issues. Your hard work constantly maintaining and updating the site is very much appreciated even if we do not voice it enough. Like everybody else unless you have your device physically on you or are constantly on line we all can miss notifications. I recently had an "urgent" text that took 2 days to come through.
