Hi, my A2 1.6 FSI Sport has 17" wheels. I'm about to buy a space saver spare. I believe the correct size is 125/70/18 with 5 X 100 bolt pattern. Can anyone confirm this gives a similar rolling diameter to the all its please? Mac.

Should have read "Can anyone confirm this gives a similar rolling circumference to the original alloys please? Mac.

The original optional Audi space saver was a 15" steel wheel, with a special Vredestein 155/70 tyre, designed to be stored deflated. It wasn't particularly matched to the main wheels, but was only intended for emergency use at low speeds and that was considered good enough.

They come up quite regularly on eBay, and in the marketplace here.

Here's an example of the full kit: https://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/123742720884

Assuming the standard 205/40 tyres on 17" wheels, the diameter is 595.8mm.
A 125/70x18 space-saver has diameter 632.2mm which is 6% larger. Depending on the offset (ET number) this could rub.

The OEM wheel & tyre size combinations (205/40x17, 185/50x16, 175/60x15) all come out at 591-596mm diameter.
The original folding space-saver is 155/70x15 which gives a diameter of 598mm i.e. practically identical to the any of the OEM combinations..

The size of your 17" tyres will determine whether that size of space saver would match. If you look at one of the tyre comparison websites, you'll be able to check. I just did a quick check and the space saver size is pretty close to 205/50 17.

Nothing new to add, but I like this tyre size checker with its graphic.

Your proposed spare IMO is too big.

Great fun if you accidently use an absurd figure!

Thanks everyone. I have bought the 125/70/18 with 5 X 100 bolt pattern, which came from an 01 A3.
I wanted a spare that can be fitted with minimum faff, and a spare you have to (hope will) inflate doesn't qualify.
The +6% on circumference might, possibly, theoretically, cause warnings if fitted to the front axle, but, these would be a minor problem at worst. If you have punctured, you just need to get out of danger. Anyway, you can always turn ESP Off.
The offset (+30mm ish)/clearance is a non issue, with the space saver half the width of the alloy!
Ohh ... it fits in the boot too!
Now I need a false floor, is there an OEM item, or is it DIY?
Mac.
