Spanner meeting in Central Scotland.

Incidentally does a forum member have a white A2 in central Edinburgh? I thought white A2s were very rare.
Yes there's an owned since new white FSI in Edinburgh. Never seen the car but @timmus has worked on it. Has yellow leather too apparently.
White A2s are indeed exceptionally rare (I think 34 were originally sold in the UK). The one that lives in the centre of Edinburgh does indeed belong to a forum member and it's almost certainly a one-off because it's got a mustard-yellow leather interior. I have worked on it once or twice, though I seem to remember it having a TDI engine.

Anyone want to try for a date in early December?
I'd certainly enjoy attending. If this meet-up happens in the earlier weeks of 2020, then there's a reasonable chance that I can attend, but otherwise I shall have to miss out.

Cheers,

Tom

I would come along before xmas but without my A2 as it needs an mot. Looking forward to meeting other owners with more knowledge and see what their A2s are like.

@damadgeruk - what sort of work would your garage permit to be undertaken? I'd be keen to do a oil change with all filters and a ramp would make this so much nicer, is that possible?

I can't believe this thread has got this far without mentioning Hobnobs or custard cremes... Or, as it's Scotlandcestershire.... eggy bacon rolls.

What is the world coming to.

Called neeps and tatties, true... but I rarely need more than one neep no matter how many are eating!... one Screaming Neep and everyone is satisfied! Ten haggises though...

Ps. Eggy bacon rolls? Fetishist!

Assuming we will be talking post xmas for this happening, how do people envisage it working out?
Do a bunch of A2 ers show up then vie for the most interesting repair/modification?
If someone came a distance they might not be keen on watching everybody gather round whatever car was on the four poster.
Finances? how much? how often etc?
Not looking for problems, I just don't have much experience of social enterprise, and curious how it will pan out.

@Gus the first spanner meeting is now looking likely to be next year. I'm going to prepare a list of who needs what, what tools/equipment they'll need and how much (if any) assistance they'll need. There will be a social aspect to the meeting though there isn't enough space (or time) to be badly organised, people will need to be allocated a time (particularly if a ramp is required) for works to be done.
I'm keen for this to be a regular event, garage owner is a nice guy who isn't charging for the use of his facilities (or electricity), A2oc assistance will be free too.

This sounds a brilliant idea, I would be interested too, no particular jobs at the moment but would be good to meet A2 folks and pick up tips for basic spannering jobs, actually that said a brake drums basics info sharing would be great, discs and pads no problem but I've never worked on drums and will need a light overhaul soonish.
Cheers!
