Can any one help me here? I've just got myself a A2 (and very happy i am too). But only have the one key:( . How much do they cost to repace??

One Key? Did you buy it private or Garage?

If you bought it through a garage i would hassel them to get you a spare.

I bought mine on Friday it came with the full keys 2xremote keys 2x master keys and 1x Plastic key.

If you dont have the master key i think this could be a costly process as i believe you need a master key to programme additional keys.

Audi don't use a master key system.
You're looking at anywhere between £140 and £200 for a 3 button remote, I have the same problem & am going to get a non remote for emergency use, don't see the point in spending 1 arm & 1 leg for sometrhing that will more than likely sit in a drawer at home!

Sorry tdiman i was only going with whats written in my owners manual as it calls the 2 non remote keys Master keys.

As me and the wife both drive the car we both have a remote key each keep the others in a safe place withing the house;) if you know what i mean.

Spare key.

Hi all, reading about keys etc brought this to mind;Went shopping to my local tesco's purchased 3poly bags full ,paid & returned to a2, opened boot put said key down placed bags in same closed boot (loud click!!) boot locked & me standing there like a LEMON??***, luck'ily I only lived 10 minutes away, walked back home calling myself the biggest prat on gods earth, funny now but then!!!!!.Returned to car with spare remote key 'problem solved' for time being, then I began to think what would I have done if I had been miles from home say in yorkshire dale's etc with no spare key available (would'nt fancy walking to Nottingham & back). Answer, off I went to my local car key locksmith man explained what had happend, good laugh Ha,Ha!.Here's how I solved the problem , locksmith made me a key 'ONLY' just the metal piece no remote etc, took a while to make same & he also drilled small hole in end of key just large enough to go onto my house key ring & Hey presto 'brilliant! now no matter what happens I can open driver door manually in any situation & drive car anywhere,SO get that spare cut ASAP, cost me £25 but well worth it, Cheers Alan.

Hi Alan
I always thought the transponder in the key was needed to switch off the alarm and engine immobiliser. The high cost of a replacement key is partly because the Audi dealer needs to hook up the car to their diagnostic machine which is then linked to the factory so the new key can be programmed. This is also why buying keys off e.bay is not practical as most dealers won't programme a 'dubious' key.
Have you actually tried to start the car with your locksmith key? While it could still be very useful to get into the car and retrieve the proper keys it may not be the total answer. Hope i'm wrong but perhaps you could let us know

Cheers Spike

Spare key.

Hi Spike,In answer to your question ; my thread was only intended/meant for gaining acess to car for re'trieval of key missplaced etc, not for starting up of car. Now Im really glad you asked the question though ,as Ive just tried to open drivers door with my key,it wont open!! although key fits and turns also(release sound is hear'd) but door remains closed,B**tard. I am/was puzzled by this because when i had the key blade made originally, it definately worked! both myself & locksmith tried key with no probs at all!.
The only thing I can think of which may have altered things is, @ Castle Coombe last year 'Mike' kindly altered my door set-up so the doors would lock on moving off + 'bleep' when locking doors with remote (is this a possible cause anyone???) anyway Ive now got to review the situation again and do a bit more re-thinking,Hey ive enough grey hairs for all A2 members,Happy days, Alan.

Alan,

Try turning the key twice in quick succession to open the car. This is the way to do it when you have security locking enabled.

So it's key in, turn, release and turn again and that should open the door.

At least you found this out in a non-emergency situation.

Cheers,

Mike

Unlocking door (drivers)

Hi Mike, Have tried your suggestion (key turn twice) no joy??? also tried with the actual remote key and that does'nt work either! (open door) so at present i'm up the proverbial gum tree!! not too worried as everything at present is fine, just have to make sure i don't place the key down anywhere near the car, I will see you @ camping trip /july, have aquired al'most all the kit required, come what may, looking forward to it,Thanks Alan.
