Speedometer not working

Hi All I am new here just bought an 2001 A2 1.4 TDI with the speedometer and mileage not working I suspect a drive failure. Can anyone help me with the location of the speedometer drive. Many Thanks
 
Hi Griff,

I'm assuming that your rev counter and such is still working perfectly and that it's just the speedo itself that's stopped working.
The speedo drive is located on top of the differential housing of the gearbox, between the two drive shafts.

A Tom stated the Speedo drive is on the diff part of the gearbox. It is on the top bordering on the back side (as you look from the front of the car) of the gearbox. There are the gear change cables plus pipes and cables in the same area so easy to mis it
When I did my clutch replacement I indeed forgot to connect the cable back up and found the speedo not working. It was obvious to me straight away what I had not done

Thanks Guys yes everything else is working on the cluster just no speed or mileage registering will take a look soon as i get the chance
