Splicing NSF Brake Harness

A helpful previous owner/mechanic has chopped the brake pad warning connection off, twisted the wires together and then sat in the house drinking tea thinking they've done a great job....

Well I'm wanting to replace the warning harness. I have the full Y cable that includes the ABS sensor wiring and a length of cable and grommets that pass through the inner wing.

The size of the 4 core cable is very small. Is a staggered soldered splice with each core with heat shrink and self amalgamating tape covering the whole joint good way of doing this?

Any other suggestions?

The genuine cable, when bought as a spare part from Audi, includes the pins to pop right into the multi-connector, or it always used to.

However, you can do a staggered solder job, using heat shrink ideally. Do it as far inside the engine bay as you can and make good with fabric loom tape, not electrical tape.
