Spring Loaded Gas Struts

Question: will these fit an A2? They are made for 2003-2012 A3 and look very similar but of course appearances can be deceptive. The fitting points look the same though.

Gas struts on mine are coming to the end of their life, so thought that this looked like a neat, not to mention practical little mod.

Has anyone already fitted something similar to theirs?

More important is the extended and compressed lengths. If too long when compressed tailgate will not shut, if too short when extended may not open the hatch high enough or support the weight of the hatch.
Try these.

 
Been doing some research and A2 and A3 struts are different OEM numbers. Plus the lengths are ever so slightly different:

Extended
A2: 500mm A3: 531mm

Strut Length
A2: 200mm A3: 210mm

The guy selling the ones I screenshot above (from eBay) doesn't provide any info on length, so seems like a risk (he's asking £48 for them). Might be a specialist job.

The 2003-12 A3 is a completely different entity and I don't believe anything from it will fit on an A2 including wheels which are a 5x112 fitment.
The 1998-2003 A3 is the same genre as the A2 and shares some components and some things are interchangeable including wheels which are 5×100 like the A2?

Right SGS have replied asking for the part number so they can quote with certainty - The PN is 8Z0898552 for anyone else interested, I note that they are still available from Audi Tradition at 83.90 EUR - although this of course does not include shipping which can be exorbitant.

I see Ebay has some listed by SWAG or Febi at 17 quid a pop - has anyone tried these and can confirm they ensure the bootlid slows down to a soft "fully open" towards the end of their travel, as opposed to the generic ones that don't?
 
I fitted SGS units in 2019, and they are fine. I entered the car details, and took what what came up. No probs.

Before deciding on re-gassing rather than new, consider that 15+ year old struts will have wear on the seals, so the re-gas may not last, as gas leaks away via the seals.
New might be a better bet medium term.
About £38 for 2, inc P&P, from SGS.

VAT is 20% isn't it, but I still only make that come to £30.24. Add in your cost of sending the struts to them for refurb though, and new ones do look like the better offer if they're OK in use.

You can try add springs to your original struts just need to buy right diameter and length.

My SGS struts are fine. I've had them about 18 months. The problem with the old ones was that the tailgate opened too quick, so damping had failed. Worn internal seals I'd guess.
If anyone is unhappy with an SGS strut, I've found them to be helpful and responsive (nothing to do with cars, bed lifter in a caravan), so give them a shout. They can adjust the "spring" and "damper" gas pressures to get the balance right,

I have changed my old trunk gas struts with a couple of stabilus lift o mat 24335. When opening the trunk there is a good brake at the top and trunk reaches the highest point slowly. But when closing it falls down and bangs. A part from Audi original, have someone found some good gas struts that have a good reaction when opening and closing ? Thanks
