Squiggley line

Can someone tell me why i have a squiggley red line that looks like a worm that is slowly making it's way up the little display screen that shows the temp,water,brakes etc.

I had that on my previous a2.it was part of the display background flaking off & it just slowly got bigger & bigger until it looked more like a small holly leaf.I made the fault go away by trading it in for a newer model. there were other reasons for the upgrade:

Do you mean the DIS? They can become faulty (Ive had 2 go wrong on my '98 A3 and '52 Golf.) - although mine both had a partial loss of display rather than a 'worm' .
