Stainless exhaust

I became the new owner of Pine Green on Saturday and I love it! @A2Steve you’ve done a great job.
I’ve got a few mods in mind including a little more clearance between the rear Tues and the arches, a Depronman 3D cover for the wiper arm and a cold air box around the air filter. I’ve also worked out the finances and have decided that a new exhaust that actually silences a bit would bff we cheaper than the amount of earplugs I’ll go through. There’s a great place back home, Turriff Tyres who did the new 63mm turbo back exhaust on Frank my 90 yellow CS to get the best out of the hybrid turbo. But it’s a long noisy way back. Is there anyone you would recommend in the Cambridge - WOM route for an exhaust?

Looking at another option George..... have you thought about having an original back box section fitted. They do provide a great amount of sound deadening. Around 7 years ago they were around £250 from dealers but can now be bought for around £80 on ebay. It may be cheaper than having a bespoke system made and then any exhaust centre would probably be able fit.

Cheers
Dave.

Hi Dave, I’ve got a couple of original exhausts back home but, and I know it’s a TDI, I really like the note on Frank the CS 90’s stainless exhaust.
It’s just verry loud, seems louder inside.
It would be great on a track, with ear plugs and a helmet but not for the road.
It was even louder before Steve put that nice rear box on it!

lol you must be finding it loud if you want an extra muffler before even setting off home.

I found the longer I owned it, the quieter it got. As an aside I can't hear Sam and kids as much either so can only be a blessing.
Speak up Steve, I can’t hear you

I’m in Cambridge for the next couple of days, I’d hoped to just put a silencer in the middle and do a proper job when I got home but it looks like it’s a whole system or nothing. There’s a few more places here to try so we’ll see what they can do. Lol

The exhaust also doesn't follow the exact same line as the factory one so may not line up. I'd suggest having the centre box cut open and extra baffles fitted.

I think it's some ear plugs and a trip to Infinity Exhausts near Bristol. Sorry about the location, but they are very well thought of. Highly recommended by the late lamented steve.c (Steph) who's report is probably on here somewhere.

Massive congrats on your aquisition of a wonderful and brave item.

Best of luck with it.

Kind regards,

Simon

PS In the real world I think the answer is more likely a call to Rob at WOM. The plus is : he would be fascinated to see this legendary machine, and well able to help. Also it's a bit more in the right direction.

Hi Simon, thanks for the thought I had read Steph’s thread and if not for my abortive trip to Chesham that would have worked.
It’s too much to spring on WOM and they’re not an exhaust specialist. I might go for noise cancelling ear pod thingies.

I used power flow in
bury st edmunds for my galaxy system when I had the cat nicked a few years ago.
Hope that helps.
Keith.
