Steering Wheel Swap Help

Hi Guys,

Just gone about swapping my SE steering wheel for a sport one and noticed some differences!

Not sure what the black lead is supposed to do on the sport wheel?

I assume that the purple plug simply comes out of the airbag and plugs straight into the sport one, but where does the black lead go? can't see anywhere obvious??

Frame around airbag of se is attached to wheel centre, but on my sport wheel, there is a similar arrangement attached to the wheel side!

All help very welcome :)

Happy to be corrected but i think the SE and sports steering wheels have differing wiring looms. If my memory serves me correctly i remember a few years back buying a sports loom for around £20 from Audi.

Just swap the whole wheel in it’s entirety. You will only need to unplug the yellow connector and that’s it!

Yes the looms are different but it’s all contained within the airbag section and so doesn’t need to be swapped over.

Hi Steve,
Bit confused, as the only wires that I have are those on the sports se wheel, nothing came with the sports one? so I have the black wires spare?

This is the steering wheel, no wires on it at all! so can the wires from the SE wheel be put onto the sport wheel?

While the wheel is off its the ideal time to fit a cruise control stalk making the upgrade quicker when required. Assuming you do not already have cruise.

Yep, the airbag is there but it has no wiring attached ? guess I need wiring listed above?
Don’t suppose you have a spare one Steve please by any chance?

Is there any chance you're talking about the horn wire? It's quite well hidden on the sport wheel, more or less behind that earthing tag on the RH side in that last picture. From memory I thought the wire was brown, but maybe not ...

Problem solved, thank you @AndyP, I managed to get the horn lead (black) off the SE wheel and fit to the Sport wheel and all is fine :)
Now to list the old wheel on an auction site and mention that no leads fitted fitted......shame the Sport wheel I bought had no lead attached!

Resurrecting an old thread as trying to get Tonka ready for MOT. The horn doesn’t work. I’ve tested the horn itself which is fine.

Prior to taking ownership Paul kindly swapped the wheel from an SE wheel to a sport wheel so id assumed when I noticed the issue that it had the wrong loom. Now having looked at the 7Zap link above it appears I’ve the right loom but when taking it off, the white connector wasn’t connected to anything (can’t see what it goes onto tbh??) and nothing is attached to the horn tag or the earthing tag.

Help!!!

If is the one I'm thinking of it's the horn connector and it's just out of sight behind the litle tab that is sticking out in the second picture.

I’m just trying to fit a lovely TT steering wheel and airbag but can’t work out where the sole brown wire connector fits onto. Am I missing something blindingly obvious?

The spade connectors attach to the steering wheel, not the airbag. You can just about see their attachment points in your photo above.

Cheers,

Tom

I thought they might but there’s seemingly only one spade connector on the wheel itself and it matches the black wire, there doesn’t seem to be a matching connection for the brown wire/connector.
