Hello,

Has anyone any suggestions about my handbrake.... I take the hand brake off but it is still effective?! i try and go and i dont move, after lots of revs and biting point there is a clunk then im free!! Seems to happen when its rained!!!

Thanks

Linzi

engage the reverse, and drive a few centimeters backwards. You'll hear the sticky handbrake releasing. Then drive forward.

I had this problem, sometime ago also when it had been raining. After cleaning out the drums, and slight adjustment its alot better.

Hi Linzi
The rear brake shoes tend to rust onto the drums while parked for long periods in damp conditions. If safe to do so, leave the car in gear with the handbrake off when parked overnight. Use the handbrake regularly at other times though or the cables may seize up.

I had a similar problem.Giving the car a once over for its mot I noticed my handbrake was sticking tried everything to free it off,no joy thought it was the mechanism itself so I stripped it all down.It was free enough :confused:whilst building it all back up I noticed the handbrake actuating lever within the drum wasn't releasing properly,so I checked the cables both were bunged up with muck and road grime.End result new cables which cured the problem.:)Try that it should work.
