sudden loss of power when cold

My Audi A2 1.4tdi sport 02 plate has a habit of loosing alot of power when the gas is pressed reasonably hard. I have noticed it at differing speeds but in particular at approx 60mph in 5th. This problem rectifys itself when stop the car and turn the ignition off and then back on, and it doesnt occur when the car is warmed up only when cold or building up temperature. This has caused me some shame when overatking especially when struggling to pass a HGV.

I guess that a diagnostic scan is needed to show up any error codes stored. Suspects would have to be the MAF sensor (a DIY reasonably cheap repair) or turbo vanes (a bit more involved but it's possible, I believe to free-off stuck vanes).
