Suspension Parts List for 1.2TDI (nothing available at AUDI)

Hello
I know the 1.2 TDI use specifics parts numbers (lighter material) but none are anymore available at AUDI (shock absorbers, coils).
Bilstein neither have those, I ask them for compatibles to Original P/N 6E0413031F & 8Z0513025N and reply :
"Unfortunately we have to inform you, that we don´t produce compatible shock absorbers for your vehicle.
Please note, that the Audi A2 1.2 TDI produced of the front axle with different struts and it´s not possible,
to install the shock absorbers for standard suspension in your vehicle.
"

So what do people use nowadays for the 1.2TDI ?
What are the other parts to exchange when you replace the shock absorber ?

Thank you very much for your help.

@RAB is your best bet or @chumsofmanutd

I know we have a complete set of replacement front suspension components for ours which are Bilstein. They’re either originally intended for a golf or polo I think but can’t remember which. They’re up at my dads so I can’t easily check for you I’m afraid.

Yes RAB is the expert, I search for this suspension question on the Forum but found only about regular A2s.
I was thinking the same about Bilstein but their answer (from support "[email protected]") leaves no hope, even if we can understand they want to stay on the safe side (leaving you with a "dangerous" car LOL).
I got the calandar at AUDI, the rear SACHS shock absorbers was discontinued this spring only, the front 02/2020. They say I have a Classic car now ;-)

Well it was maybe true but not anymore (and why that), I'm a bit lost know. Did I used Bilstein Catalogue incorrectly ?

In fact you are right for the other A2s, but no shock options for 1.2 (as the Support specified)
The spring have also different P/N between 1.2 and the other A2s.

Same stories with LUPO 3L
canvas.pngCCCCC.png

Even VW LUPO 1.4 & Audi A2 1.4 don't use same B6 and B4 shocks P/N on the Bilstein Catalogue, it's really difficult to be sure of what we are doing.

Here's some rears:

The Audi A2 1.2TDI uses the same front shock absorbers as the VW Lupo 1.2TDI.

The VW Lupo front shock absorbers are based on the VW Polo MK3, and therefore the Audi A2 1.2TDI front shock absorbers are also based on the VW Polo MK3 front shock absorbers.

The Audi A2 (all models except 1.2TDI) front shock absorbers are based on the VW Polo MK4 front shock absorbers.

Therefore you might be able to find some Bilstein B4 front shock absorbers from the VW Polo MK3 that will fit, such as the Bilstein B4 22-045010 front shock absorbers.

However, the VW Polo MK3 front springs tend to be around 350mm in uncompressed length, whereas the Audi A2 1.2TDI front springs are around 300mm in uncompressed length. This is because Audi chose to drop the front end of the Audi A2 1.2TDI to improve aerodynamics. The Audi A2 (all models except 1.2TDI) front springs tend to be around 338mm in uncompressed length.

Therefore, if you chose to use standard VW Polo MK3 front shock absorbers you might want to use more normal length front springs...perhaps front springs from the Audi A2 1.4 petrol, or maybe front springs from the VW Polo MK3. Also, it appears from the A2 German forum that normal Audi A2 front springs won't fit the VW Polo MK3 shock absorbers.

Someone on the German A2 website (a2-freun.de) fitted VW Polo MK3 front shock absorbers to their Audi A2 1.2TDI.

It's on this forum that I read Bilstein shock absorbers for Polo are too stiff (so bouncy and uncomfortable) for the light & narrow A2 1.2 (the guy went back to his old suspension).
But that was few years ago, will check again, thanks.

The front springs will have a big influence on how the car rides.

Here are the front springs that are listed for the VW Polo MK3.

6K0411105AE
6K0411105AJ
6K0411105H
6K0411105L
6N0411105AA
6N0411105AC
6N0411105AD
6N0411105N
6N0411105P
6N0411105Q
6N0411105R
6N0411105S
6N0411105T

Out of the above front springs, the 6K0411105H appears to be the softest aftermarket front spring that is available, and I suspect would be a good match for the Audi A2 1.2TDI with VW Polo MK3 front shock absorbers. This should give a standard front ride height, rather than the lowered front ride height that the Audi A2 1.2TDI normally has. Therefore full front suspension travel and a better ride.

Thank you Carlston for all your search.

The one unhappy with his conversion was using B6 shock absorber and sport springs, way too stiff for such light car. He had to revert ; Better sometime enemy of good.

Where do you find info about 6K0411105H softness? It's interesting (and available as Lesjofors 4095108) but German forum advise MEYLE 100 041 0002 Coil spring (Bilstein front coils had fitment issues recently, to avoid)

Thickness [mm]: 11,3 mm for MEYLE versus 11,75 for the 6K0411105H (and 10,8 mm for MONROE SP0024 but 10% heavier)

Avoid Lesjofors 4095108 because it's sold to replace four different springs. It may not be a close match to 6K0411105H.
6K0411105H
6K0411105L
6N0411105N
6N0411105P

Sachs 997835 should match 6K0411105H

Meyle 100 041 0002 is sold to replace 171411105G, which is a VW Golf MK1 front spring. This spring is too soft, too long, and has too many coil turns.

171411105G (Golf MK1 front spring)

If you're using Polo MK3 front shock absorbers it makes sense to use Polo MK3 front springs.

So from the part list found on German Forum https://a2-freun.de/forum/forums/topic/35646-12-tdi-bilstein-b4-fahrwerk/, here is what I bought.
To not have too many parcels from different sellers, I bought BILSTEIN and MEYLE only (the Bilstein front coils had issues recently, MEYLE is the one advised now).

FRONT
Bilstein 22-044761 front shock absorber PLN 218.00 x2
Bilstein 12-225323 top assembly PLN 98.20 x2
100 041 0002 MEYLE Coil spring ; PLN 67.80 x2
100 642 0010 MEYLE Rubber spacer, suspension PLN 19.50 x2
100 643 0003 MEYLE Dust cover PLN 21.80 x2

Forum was advising to buy 6N0 412 331 E & 6N0 412 249 C separately, but bought Bilstein 12-225323 instead. A little more expensive this way but I guess less worrying about fitment between parts.

REAR
Bilstein 19-106120 rear shock absorber PLN 217.30 x2
100 740 0002 MEYLE Dust protection kit PLN 57.10

Total below 280€ from wiw_parts & MroautoPL2 on Allegro.pl ; this is good price I'm sure.
Will confirm the result next month.

So Few month after I can say it works ! These are definitely the right parts to buy for an A2 1.2 TDI.
At the end it's a bit higher (1or 2 cm but all 4 springs were previously corroded), it's stiff and less comfortable, but it works way better on twisty roads and bumps - security is now guarantee.

Meyle 100 041 0002 is sold to replace 171411105G, which is a VW Golf MK1 front spring. This spring is too soft, too long, and has too many coil turns.
Too soft ? What a great news, in fact it's still stiffer than original, the point have always be to find the softest available for this 850 KG car...

Did you consider using Audi A2 1.2TDI front springs 8Z0411105B with the Polo MK3 front shock absorbers?

8Z0411105B Audi A2 1.2TDI front springs
Sachs 998 405
Kilen 10195
Lesjofors 4004257

You can see in the Audi parts catalogue that only four front springs are listed for the 1.2TDI which has engine code ANY

None of the original parts (F-R shocks & spring) are available at Audi for A2 1.2TDI, that is the topic !!! So these are not available anymore or compatibility with Bilstein 22-044761 are not guarantee. Do you own a A2 1.2TDI ??
I used the parts list provided by German A2 forum (included Meyle 100 041 0002) and confirm it works, a proven experience. ;)

The Eibach F11-81-001-01-VA Pro-Kit front spring from the VW Polo MK3 might be a good alternative to the standard A2 1.2TDI front spring with OEM part number 8Z0411105B.

The uncompressed lengths of both front springs are similar.

The Eibach's 6 coil turns and 12.00mm wire diameter should give a similar stiffness to the 5 coil turns and 11.00mm wire diameter of the standard front springs with OEM part number 8Z0411105B. This is because the increase in wire diameter from 11.00mm to 12.00mm would make the spring about 20% stiffer, but the increase in the number of coil turns from 5 to 6 would make the spring about 20% softer. So the net result is that the two different springs should have about the same stiffness.

Eibach front spring Pro-Kit F11-81-001-01-VA
Length 291mm, Number of coil turns 6, Wire diameter 12.00mm

Standard A2 1.2TDI front spring with OEM part number 8Z0411105B
Length 293mm, Number of coil turns 5, Wire diameter 11.00mm
